Copy from Krishna:
Preferred Option:
Or download directly from GitHub (Android only)
Alternate Option:
Android users: Download directly from GitHub
I've uploaded screenshots with both copy options in our recommended placement.

The link to GitHub is not the place to get the download. I think Eric has found the correct URL and included it in comment 1.
It's easy enough to revise the copy to just remove the GitHub references:
Or download directly (Android only)
Android users: Download directly.

As I test this I am starting to have some concerns about the user experience.
- the link could add confusion and decrease overall downloads
- the page we are linking to does not provide any help for the user
I think the cause is good "if you are really concerned about your privacy you can download Focus without even going through Google" but we need to do more than add a link to communicate this, especially when it could draw users away from the established install path.
Re: our Slack discussion about updating the copy ^^
Roadbumps:
- If we turn up the privacy angle in the copy, we risk implying that there's something nefarious about the Google Play store. (read: legal snafus).
- The download page itself is a confusing experience (even for Android users).
- The bulk of the education needs to happen post-hop. Otherwise, we risk deterring users from the primary download CTA.
Let's:
1. Understand if our key audience is an APK savvy Android user or a general Android user.
2. If general Android user, let's add instructions or link to a SUMO article that helps them along.
3. Check if there are any ramifications for countries that don't have app store access.
For now:
I've tweaked Mobile page copy to accommodate the ideas above. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KHPnH9MemQ271JNzh1QyqiPxwxXh8XK1Tr0M1KfHojk/edit

(Appologies for the drive by comment):
How we already deal with direct download links for other platforms may be worth some consideration here. For Firefox on Android for example, we provide direct download links via a /all page [1].
If there is a need to provide extra information here, but we don't want to detract from the primary CTA - could we follow our existing conventions and build a page such as /firefox/android/focus/all/? It could then just be a small CTA link on the /mobile page.
Once a /all page for Focus existed, this could then ultimately be solved by fixing Bug 1417692 (which is to add supplemental/additional download links to the main firefox pages). Currently there are no direct download links for Firefox on Android either, and this bug is really just adding Focus to that same list.

Here's the updated version with the link appearing in the mobile download modal, only for Android users.
Peter: I've copied the analytics code from the Google Play button, I hope that's okay.

I created Bug 1434412 to handle the separate page for Focus so we can keep this bug focused.
