Editor bug.. Horizontal Scroll bar does not appear if the last word won't fit inside the right margin (on first line of text) Reproduced in commercial release build 09/19/1999 2pm Steps to reproduce: 1) Launch Seamonkey 2) Open Editor (Tasks-->Editor menu 3) Type a new line at the top of the page. Be careful that the last word you type on that line *is longer* than the right margin on that page (or type a string of one letter that fills the whole first line). Actual Results: The text seems to keep typing off the screen where you cannot see it. The horizontal scroll bar does not appear _until_ you hit <enter> and type more text till it scrolls off the screen again. Expected results: As soon as the last word typed begins to go off the right margin, either that whole word should automatically be bumped down to the next line, or the horizontal scroll bar should appear and the text should autoscroll to the right as you type so you can see what you are typing. This is the behavior in the Current release of Composer in 4.61.
Also note that the cursor moves to the beginning of the first line after hitting enter when text goes off screen. It should move to the next line and not the first line.

My group needs this fixed for Beta.
Severity: normal → major
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
Priority: P3 → P2
Target Milestone: M12
I don't see this. Suzanne, can you grab sujay or one of the editor engineers in mountain view and show them what you mean? Sujay, have you seen anything like this?
The 9/21/99 1pm build had the same behavior. I noticed you can only see this if you start a new line of text. I duplicated it by doing the following: When you open the editor, put focus in front of the word "Here" for the sentence "Here's the deal..", then hit <enter>. The sentence will be bumped down a line. Up Arrow so the cursor goes to the beinning of the empty line above that sentence. Then type a sentence where the last word goes off the screen. You should be able to reproduce this bug. I will add this to the bug decsription for clarity also.
I see what she is saying...the scrollbar does moving but the text is slightly off the page....barely though....the last char you type is too close to the border of the window....
thanks, I can reproduce it every time now. The problem is that nbsp's are getting inserted instead of regular spaces. rule boy! oh, rule boy! It would probably help joe out to know if there are other specific cases where you can get this same effect to happen.

I should be working on this late this week. Given the new code review rules, though, it may not go in til next week.

I tried this using the 19991102 build on a win95 machine and when I enter the character that bumps up to the right margin and then enter one more character, the horizontal scrollbar appears. Suzanne -- can you try this using a more current build and see if it works for you? If it does, can you please mark this fixed?

This worksforme now..Go ahead and mark it fixed....(Though I think it has evolved into another bug where the last character is too close to the edge of the frame when the scrollbar appears..should have a little more breathing space IMHO...;-)

I think we already have a margins bug, I'm going through the bug list and if I don't see it, I'll open one up. Marking this fixed.

I see the scrollbar but its a "dumb" scrollbar meaning it doesn't shrink as you keep typing off the end of the page...filing separate bug..
