Description

Currently, in bugzilla, we only defined three components for international and
localization issue:
Localization
Internationalization
BiDi Hebrew & Arabic
I suggest we add the following new components in bugzilla so we can track the
issues better:

    * Fonts & Text Display- Windows
    * Fonts & Text Display- Mac
    * Fonts & Text Display- GTK
    * Fonts & Text Display- PostScript
    * Keyboard Input & IME- Windows
    * Keyboard Input & IME- Mac
    * Keyboard Input & IME- GTK
    * Character Set Conversion

The reason I suggest we add platforms into the components is because bugzilla
has one default assignee to each components but usually the people working on
those are are very platform specific.

    * Fonts & Text Display- GTK
    * Fonts & Text Display- PostScript
    * Keyboard Input & IME- GTK

Please let me know what you think. Below are the detail description for each
components

*Fonts & Text Display- PLATFORM
*Problems related to the selection of font, the text measurement (width, height)
and text drawing on PLATFORM.

*Keyboard Input & IME- PLATFORM
*Problems related to the keyboard layout switching, single key keyboard text
input, and Asian input method text input operation.

*Character Set Conversion
*Problems related to the conversion between legacy encoding and Unicode.

If you agree to add them, I will provide you the default assignee and QA contact
for them.

For developer assignee:
    * Fonts & Text Display- Windows: shanjian@netscape.com
    * Fonts & Text Display- Mac: ftang@netscape.com
    * Fonts & Text Display- GTK: I suggest katakai@japan.sun, katakai- are you
willing to do that ?
    * Fonts & Text Display- PostScript: I suggest katakai@japan.sun, katakai-
are you willing to do that ?
    * Keyboard Input & IME- Windows: yokoyama@netscape.com
    * Keyboard Input & IME- Mac: ftang@netscape.com
    * Keyboard Input & IME- GTK: I suggest katakai@japan.sun, katakai- are you
willing to do that ?
    * Character Set Conversion: ftang@netscape.com

For QA contact-
andreasb: please provide the name here. Thanks

kevin.zhou@sun.com: do you want to sign up for the following QA contact?
    * Fonts & Text Display- GTK
    * Fonts & Text Display- PostScript
    * Keyboard Input & IME- GTK

asa is rightly opposed to component flooding, so i think what i can offer you
is:
    * Text Display
desc: this includes problems with _fonts_
    * Input Methods
desc: this includes problems with _keyboards_ and _input method editors_
    * Character Set Conversion

as for platforms, you'll have to rely on someone doing the reassignment or
provide the bugzilla team resources to fix this deficiency.

agree . can you do that now.

We're going to need to do more to differentiate between these components or
we'll find half of the layout and style system bugs filed on text display.
Remember that a bug reporter doesn't necessarily see the description of the
component, just the name.
Perhaps these all belong under internationalization? maybe something like
internationalization: text display
internationalization: input methods
internationalization: character set conversion
Does that make sense?

So, what's the story here. Do we really want these new text/layout components?
I don't see the need for the text display component, since we just created
"Layout: Fonts & Text". The others make sense if there are enough bugs that
it's worth having the reporters classify them.
