User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/63.0.3239.132 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce: Highlight an e-mail Click Junk button Hightlight junk e-mail Click Not Junk Actual results: So mail that I click as junk are NOT going into the junk folder. This is happening on min. 3 gmail accounts which are POP. I had this issue with my old TB, then I spent days redoing EVERYTHING & creating a new TB & it's still happening. I have tons of e-mail accounts, so it's not happening on every account, but no matter what was suggested in the TB forum, nothing works & it's very frustrating. The issue with mail that's not junk & not being able to unjunk it seems new, but honestly, I can't remember if it happened in the old TB. Expected results: You highlight mail & can junk or unjunk & it should move in or out of the junk folder.

Do you have this configured properly? Tools > Options, Security, Junk: When I mark messages as Junk: Move them to the account's "Junk" folder? Is there a valid junk folder configured?

I accessed this computer. Settings looked OK and Junk folders had the junk flag and icon. It didn't help to use "Other" method of pointing to the same Junk folder. (Although I personally have only seen that work with Trash folder). So we did https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/folderflags/ remove junk flag from folder. delete Junk folder create new Junk folder add junk flag to folder set Junk folder in account settings We probably could have skipped the second last step. We didn't test unchecking "Move new junk messages to". Other recent reports bug 1367684, bug 1367443

Michelle, Do you still see this in version 60 ?
It's a bug, not a feature, so yes, I still have issues in several of my accounts where the mail that goes into the junk folder either won't go back into the inbox after I say it's not junk, or I tell it that it's junk in the inbox & it won't go into the junk folder. You & I fixed one of the accounts I think, but I've had the issue since in other accounts in my TB. Thanks Wayne & Happy NY. Michelle

Thanks for the update. Please clarify, does this happen when using version 60.4.0?
So I haven't manually updated in a while & I don't do automatic updates b/c I need certain add-ons always & I'm always afraid they haven't been updated.
I'm using 52.9.1
If I switch to 60.4.0 will it fix it guaranteed?
Thanks Wayne

Sorry, not possible to predict.
If you ask at the community support group (top of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/thunderbird ) they can give advice about your addons. Sometimes there is a trade off.
Ok, I updated. A few issues, but I like the smoothness of this version.
In the inbox with all the junk mail that's stuck there - While I was able to click the "not junk" & "junk" button to get the mail to file into the junk folder, I just found 2 new pieces of mail in the inbox that are labeled junk.
So, looks like this is still an issue.
On another matter (I don't know if there's a bug report on this or not)...
TB used to have it that there was spell check in the subject line.
I don't know what version it disappeared it, but I'm not happy they removed it.
We need to spell check our subject lines too, not just the body of the e-mails.
Thanks Wayne.

Michelle,
Have you been updating TB regularly? We should be at 60.8 at least. Are you still running into the issues?

Hi Ben,
I was on 60.4 & I just updated the other day when I read your question. I stopped the automatic updates due to a theme & some add-ons.
I'm still getting junk coming into my inbox that should be going to the junk folder & good mail going into spam or junk that I can't label as not junk.
I'd have to check all of my accounts as I have a ton & see which ones are still doing this.
Thanks

My personal opinion - given the size of your profile and all the changes it has gone through over the years I don't think we are ever going to determine how your profile got in this state, and so unlikely to determine a fix how to avoid it. I think your only path forward is to apply the process we used with the account that we corrected.

Wayne, me & my website coder already redid the ENTIRE profile & imported all the e-mail accounts manually & the mail (not all even) folder by folder. It took me a lot of time & energy to do it, but we did.
I didn't even import all my mail & I'm still having problems, so this is clearly a TB issue if even a brand new profile causes me problems.
I'm no longer having the strange characters, but I'm still having junk going into the inbox & no "Not junk" button in the junk folder to tell TB that the mail isn't junk. That's not on all accounts, but at least 1-2.

Reporter, can you still reproduce this problem using a recent version, currently version 78?
