This bug asks to make DDG *the* default search engine, it's not a dupe of bug 858046, which is about adding DDG in the default set. It's either a RFE bug or a WONTFIX, likely the latter.
Privacy is what Mozilla sells. Google is known for data logging.

We have to take into account more than just privacy, for example the user experience of the results (do they get the better results first, sooner etc) and other factors. Defaults are reviewed every few years.
I'm wontfixing this to close it out - the decisions are taken at a higher level and as mentioned, privacy is just one of the options considered for users.
