User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:58.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/58.0
Build ID: 20180128191252
Firefox for Android
Steps to reproduce:
No steps, just regular usage. Search engine appeared without any specific steps.
Actual results:
Search engine Yandex appeared itself without any steps from my side despite the fact that I removed all standard built-in included search engines (Bing, Firefox, Twitter, Google, Yandex) and only left Wikipedia and DuckDuckGo.
Yesterday (Feb 7) Yandex appeared on 3 differents platforms with no synchronization: Firefox 59b7 x64 on Windows 7x64 (all latest updates), Firefox binary version from Mozilla v. 58.0.1 on Gentoo Linux, Firefox Android 58 from Google Play Store.
Expected results:
Search engines should not be updated or isntalled if user did not agree to such behavior. I disable search engine updates and remove built-in search engines as they do not satisfy my needs, they do not work properly and I prefer my own custom search engines which were not affected (I hope).
I do not use Firefox Account synchronization and not use any other method. Yandex appered on 3 different platforms is not a conicidence.

It didn't affect mobile version only. It affected all version I use including (noticed yesterday) Firefox Nightly 60 on Windows.

I suspect this was triggered by a simple update for the default search engine list. Maybe Mike knows more.

Yes, we updated the list on the server side. This was expected. We wouldn't know that you hid all the other engines. We did not reshow engines that were already hidden.
Update search engines only affects individual engines being updated.
