Details

Instead of "Open new windows in a new tab instead" check box use option-checkbox like "Open new Links in - (o)Tab ()Window"
Summary: use option-checkbox for Open new windows in a new tab instead → use binary-checkbox for Open new windows in a new tab instead
Since there is only two choices the checkbox control works fine. If there were three choices or more then radio buttons as you have suggested would work better.
