In a debug build, I've closed all my windows, leaving just the console window visible. Now none of the menu items work, I guess because the hidden window is not getting the events. We need some way to fix this.
Don't select the console window;) Since the release build will not have a console window I am moving out to m14. I am mildly concerned that switching between various apps could get us in the state where menu events are thrown away but I haven't come up with a case yet where it occurs.

What about the case when we show a modal dialog (XUL, or OS dialog) when no other windows are up. What happens when that dialog goes away?
I think you will be ok ( the couple cases I tried worked. ) since when the modal dialog is dismissed the hidden window gets activated again.

I just got into a state (somehow, can't recall how) where using menu items which should have been handled by the hidden windows caused warnings "throwing away event because there is no focussed widget".

This bug still lives in the latest builds (nightly 12 June 2001, for example) and affects other actions as well. When the JavaScript console is active, you can't create a new browser, quit, open Bookmarks, and other actions that should be considered "global" (i.e., not window-dependent) within the app. Do these bugs need a new entry, or is this bug (ancient as it is) expandable to handle the other things that don't work, too?

This bug refers to the debug console (a SIOUX window) that appears only in debug builds. There are a number of windows in the product (view source, help, JS console) that don't have menubars, and therefore don't respond to Quit and other commands. These windows need a separate bug per window (some may exist already). I have no idea why law has this (Mac only) bug.
