People

(Reporter: nasrinkhaksar3, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.2
Build ID: 20180205075051

Steps to reproduce:

1- select one for for download and start downloading.

2- quit or suspend your internet connection temporarily.
3- connect to internet again and try resume download.

Actual results:

seamonkey starts downloading from the beginning of file and does not continue download from the last status before connection interruption.
result:
waiste of time for download, losing data and even impossible downloading large files with weak internet connections.

Expected results:

seamonkey should support resume download and continues it properly, not starts download always from the beginning of files!
this bug is resolved since firefox 33, i did not understand while seamonkeys codes are based on firefox, whats the reason that the issue still persists in seamonkey!

please see bug:

if i want to migrate from firefox to seamonkey, not supporting continuing broken downloads, makes my decision impossible!
i realized that seamonkey has better options and preferences and about:config
over firefox and my needed settings are in options by default, without need to use about:config.
also, i needed one html editor accessible for blind users and found your program.
the only issue is broken downloads.
by the way, i use windows xp and realy cant upgrade it!
could you please fix this bug with the supported versions on windows xp?
i appreciate any help, God bless you!
This depends on the server and might or might not work today because of this.

SeaMonkey uses a different download backend in 2.49.3 compared to Firefox. The next version will change this. Versions starting from 2.52 already have the new code but they are not production ready. The next planned major version is 2.57 using esr 60 code. It will likely not appear this year. Unfortunately Windows XP is no longer supported and it is also unclear if the html editor can be included because of major breaking changes in the mozilla backend code.

do you mean that existance of html compose and editor is not stable in your programs, causes bugs and you may remove this feature in the future?
do you have any version available with supporting of resume download until now?
i searched and read most about:config in firefox and seamonkey and realized that most of them are the same!
except news, email, chat and editor which are only available in firefox.
i searched internet and did not find any free program except seamonkey accessible for blind users that can edit content of pages and books not there codes!
i wish to have html editor, not code editor!
i use opensource programs and decided to convert all of my word books in to html and edit them.
also resume downloading is very important for me and i prefer to use one program that sutes all of my browsing, writing, reading, editing and downloading of files.
how can you help me in this regard?
i wish that firefox did not remove html compose and editor.
whats the reason that the only internet suite program that can provide everything we need is seamonkey and firefox removed this feature?
thanks again extremely for your help.
by the way, i read two duplicated bugs or related bugs to my issue now.
you want to change download manager and instead, use javascript manager if i am correct.
but i disabled javascript in firefox and dont have any problem downloading files!
i like your download manager best, but wish that specially resume download be supported without faile and without crash.
after connecting to the internet again and i try to resume download, seamonkey shows an error that says the file cant be saved because the source cant be read (if i am correct in typing the error)!
