of bug 143131
People
(Reporter: janfolkert, Assigned: rpotts)
Details
(Keywords: hang)
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.8) Gecko/20020204
BuildID: 2002032519
The browser stops responding if in a tab a page is opened.
As soon as the page starts loading again, the freeze is ended,
and switching between tabs is possible again.
I think it's only the name-lookup that hangs the browser, and
then releases the tab again.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.open a page
2.open a tab
3.open another page in the tab
4.while the tab tries to determine the address of the page, try to
switch to the previous tab
Actual Results: no tab-switching from tab B to tab A, or the other way around.
Expected Results: switch from tab B to tab A
workaround: maybe make the tab-name-lookups threaded, so that the hangs
will not trouble the main browser, but only that part of it.
I've noticed this problem in browsers before 0.99, though i haven't checked
version 1.0pre1/pre2 yet.
( had to step back due to the fact that i reinstalled linux, and
didn't bother downloading the latest version of mozilla)

Reporter, could you install the latest nightly build and try it again? Your
build is old. Thanx for testing Mozilla.
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/

Bugzilla responds immediately
Some time later, Moz tells me hockeyzzz.com can't be found.

this sounds like a dupe of the bug where control-n etc.
don't work in a new tab until page loading starts.
I am CC:ed on that bug (moz@compsoc.man.ac.uk) but bugzilla
is currently too slow to search. Leaving for some
kind triager of the future to mark.
