Hi, I just joined Mozilla. Today I reported (via Nestor) that I could not launch VidyoDesktop on Fedora27 with the following error: QGtkStyle was unable to detect the current GTK+ theme. CLIENT: socket_error removed server QTVD-IPC-SERVER IPC server fired successfully QPainter::begin: Widget painting can only begin as a result of a paintEvent Cannot open for reading file /home/bird/.vidyo/VidyoDesktop/config.xml got fs = ext 4 supports ext4 get_tag_value-48-53-51-51-101-102 QObject: Cannot create children for a parent that is in a different thread. (Parent is VDVidyoClientPlugIn(0x43f14f0), parent's thread is VDVidyoClientPlugIn(0x43f14f0), current thread is QThread(0x4195bc0) QObject: Cannot create children for a parent that is in a different thread. (Parent is VDVidyoClientPlugIn(0x43f14f0), parent's thread is VDVidyoClientPlugIn(0x43f14f0), current thread is QThread(0x4195bc0) Object::connect: No such signal VDController::StartDownload(bool) in ../source/VDController.cpp:610 QObject::moveToThread: Cannot move objects with a parent QThread::wait: Thread tried to wait on itself /usr/bin/VidyoDesktop: line 6: 25006 Segmentation fault (core dumped) /opt/vidyo/VidyoDesktop/$EXEC $option $audioflag $@ However. I've been able to resolve it and thought it was worth sharing in case others have the same problem. The problem appears to have been a lack of a system tray. Installing the TopIconsPlus gnome extensions fixes the problem. https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1031/topicons/
One more thing to add. I cannot get the latest version of Vidyo available for linux (3.6.3.017) to work. I have to use 3.3.0.027, which I found here: https://v.mozilla.com/upload/VidyoDesktopInstaller-sl564-TAG_VD_3_3_0_027.rpm And then make sure it does not upgrade. The error I get for 3.6.3.017 is: QPainter::begin: Widget painting can only begin as a result of a paintEvent Object::connect: No such slot VDCallWindow::OnHideMuteToolbarsWhenWindowDeactivate() in ../source/VDController.cpp:3847 Object::connect: (receiver name: 'VDCallWindow') /usr/bin/VidyoDesktop: line 6: 4178 Segmentation fault (core dumped) /opt/vidyo/VidyoDesktop/$EXEC $option $audioflag $@ and I didn't find a solution for that.
FWIW I have this same problem on Fedora 26.
And Fedora 28 too :)
Summary: Getting Vidyo working on Fedora 27 → Getting Vidyo working on Fedora 26/7/8
Thank you, the workaround works great! If we can't actually get Vidyo to fix the issue upstream, could we at least roll the version offered by https://v.mozilla.com back to 3.3.0.027 by default on Fedora?

Bug 701083 comment #128 is as far as I got with Vidyo 3.6 and Fedora. (I use Debian, but I tried a few other distros in VMs to see if I could help people out.) If I recall correctly there was clearly a bug in Vidyo's code causing that crash, but I couldn't easily see why it would break on Fedora but not Debian unstable (which both track upstream releases relatively closely).
Upgrading to Fedora 29 broke vidyo, even with TopIconsPlus and the older vidyo installed. The error I get is: > VidyoDesktop: error while loading shared libraries: libidn.so.11: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I tried installing the 'libidn-devel' and 'libidn2-devel' packages, but same thing.
Turns out I have libidn.so.12.6.0 on my system. I tried manually creating a link called 'libidn.so.11' which gets me a little further, but VidyoDesktop then goes back to segfaulting with the same error in comment 1.
Success! The latest version of TopIconsPlus was the culprit. I tried using TopIconsRedux instead and now I have it working again. To recap, here is the (ever growing) list of things I had to do: 1. Install the old version of Vidyo here: https://v.mozilla.com/upload/VidyoDesktopInstaller-sl564-TAG_VD_3_3_0_027.rpm 2. Install the "TopIcons Redux" shell extension: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1497/topicons-redux/ 3. Manually symlink libidn: $ cd /usr/lib64 $ ln -s libidn.so.12.6.0 libidn.so.11 Then it started working again.
Summary: Getting Vidyo working on Fedora 26/7/8 → Getting Vidyo working on Fedora 26-29
I had delayed upgrading to 29 for other reasons. Vidyo was broken in the same ways described after updating and following Andrew's steps worked to fix it for me.

Just did a fresh install of Fedora 29, and needed to run the following: sudo dnf install mesa-libGLU

So, to recap, with Andrew's instructions:

  1. Install the old version of Vidyo here: https://v.mozilla.com/upload/VidyoDesktopInstaller-sl564-TAG_VD_3_3_0_027.rpm
  2. Install the "TopIcons Redux" shell extension: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1497/topicons-redux/
  3. Manually symlink libidn:
    $ cd /usr/lib64
    $ ln -s libidn.so.12.6.0 libidn.so.11
  4. Install libGLU:
    $ dnf install mesa-libGLU

With the switch to zoom, I'm going to close this.
