User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0 Build ID: 20180219114835 Steps to reproduce: Start Firefox, Firefox shows the upgrade dialog but nothing is changed afterwards. I'm still on version 59.0b11. Clicking "Restart to upgrade Firefox" on the about dialog results in the same procedure. (I'm not sure whether this is important since I can just download the newest beta, but I figured I'd let you know in case a lot of people are still stuck on version 59.0b11 and don't notice. So feel free to close without a comment if it's not important in your opinion.) Actual results: Firefox didn't successfully upgrade to version 59.0b12 or higher. Expected results: Firefox should have upgraded to version 59.0b12 or higher.
I couldn't reproduce the issue on Windows 10 x64 and on Ubuntu 16.06 x64. I downloaded version 59.0b11 and then I clicked on "Restart to upgrade Firefox" and the result was that Firefox was correctly updated to 59.0b14. Could you please try this again and see if you still have the same problem even with a newer version?

Hi Hani, no, I still can't upgrade. Maybe it's a problem with version 59.0b12 and it's still downloaded so Firefox doesn't check for newer ones, where the bug doesn't exist? Should I just upgrade manually or do you want me to try other things? But even if we managed to fix that problem it probably wouldn't fix the situation for other users with the same problem. However maybe it's useful to know what the problem is so it can be avoided in the future. Tell me what you think. Oh and the real answer to your question is "I don't know" since Firefox probably still tries to update to 59.0b12 and I can't find a way to get it to check for newer updates.

I still could not reproduce it, I tried with both versions mentioned above and in both cases Beta is being upgraded to Beta 59.0. Could you please try to download Beta 59.0b12 manually and open it with a new profile you have the steps here how to open it with a new profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager

Miraculously, Firefox upgraded successfully in the meantime. It showed me a warning that it doesn't have a lot of disk space, so maybe that was the problem all along. Is there a check for sufficient disk space when upgrading? Anyway I was on version 59.0b12 then and could further upgrade and am now on 59.0. Best regards

Since it showed you a warning that it doesn't have a lot o disk space, I don't think there is a way to check for sufficient disk space when upgrading. Closing as Resolved:Works For Me. Please feel free to reopen the bug if issue will appear again.

So I kept watching this problem as it returned and sometimes disappeared again. But it still happens (73.0b11). I have more than enough disk space, so I don't think that's it.

Also even if that were the problem, the upgrade mechanism in the "About Mozilla Firefox" window should not show "Firefox is up to date" but tell me that there is a new update to which it can't update to, just like the pop up says. So it seems different code to check for updates is used and the method in the "About Mozilla Firefox" window is deprecated, since it doesn't find new updates sometimes.

Interestingly, Firefox recently told me to upgrade from 73.0b11 even though there is no newer beta version available. So maybe it doesn't even check whether there is a new version, it just tells me so without knowing, because it can't check. So instead of telling me to upgrade it should tell me to check whether there's an upgrade, manually.
