Details

[Affected versions]: - Windows 10 x64 [Affected platforms]: - latest Nightly 60.0a1 - Beta 59.0b13 - Release 58.0.2 [Steps to reproduce]: 1. Download the latest Firefox Installer from here: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/candidates/59.0b13-candidates/build1/win32/en-US/ 2. Double click on the installer and follow the instructions in order to install Firefox (you may need to click "Yes" on the UAC Prompt). 3. Observe the behavior after the installation is completed. [Expected result]: - The Firefox icon remains pinned to the taskbar. [Actual result]: - The Firefox icon is not pinned to the taskbar after the installation process is completed. [Regression range]: - I don't think that this is a regression, I was able to reproduce it on FF 55.0 (20170803103124) as well. [Additional notes]: - it seems that this issue is specific to Win 10, on Win 8.1 and 7 the icon remains properly pinned into taskbar.
You're saying "remains" pinned; does that mean that in this scenario there was a copy of Firefox already installed and pinned to the taskbar, and that that pin disappeared after running the installer? Or was this a completely new installation and the issue is that no new taskbar pin was created?

It was a completely new installation (I had no other Firefox instances installed on my machine), before doing this STR. After the installation has been completed, Firefox's icon appeared in the taskbar, but there was no pin created.

Okay, thanks. In that case this is unfortunately the correct expected behavior. The method we use to create the taskbar pin on Windows 7 and 8 was removed in Windows 10 because Microsoft decided to stop allowing programs to create those on behalf of users, so we just are not able to do that anymore.
