User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
Build ID: 20180118122319
Steps to reproduce:
Fresh boot of Windows 10 Home, then I wait a few seconds for things to catch up, once the HD stops doing it's initial load of drivers and such upon booting I then click the Firefox.exe shortcut on my desktop or the link saved to my taskbar/quicklaunch area.
Actual results:
Firefox starts normally, nice and fast, but it will hang for an abnormally long period of time upon loading the first tab, which is custom set to load www.google.com.
I've also tried other sites and browser URLs as my start/home page and all have the same abnormal hang time where it displays a blank screen and "Connecting..." is displayed in the Firefox status area.
This hang can be anywhere from 7 seconds all the way up to 13 or 14 seconds before the "Connecting..." goes away and it begins doing it's initial contact with the site/address I have set as the home/start page.
No connection or connecting attempt takes place during this hang time.
Hopefully my details explanation helps narrow this down, especially the fact that no connection takes place during the hang.
Additional Notes:
Tested with addons ON and OFF. Result: No change.
Tested with multiple different URLs as my custom set start/home page or URL: Result: No change.
I will be attentive to this Bugzilla report & will reply to all questions so I can see this problem through and get it rectified, any questions for further information about my system, it's setup or requests for testing to be done on this or that fix will be done & results will be posted and followed up on this Bugzilla report.
Expected results:
Firefox should open and run correctly without such a long hang before any connection is made to my home/start page.

Hi Daniel,
From your description, I see that you are running FF 52 version, if this is correct, please update to the latest version FF 58 and retest this.
If this doesn't help, please install FF Nightly 60 version and retest this issue, you have here a link from where you can download it: https://nightly.mozilla.org/
Please note that I tested this issue on Windows 7 x64 with FF 58 and FF Nightly 60.0a1(2017-03-06) and I can't reproduce the issue.

I'm sorry for the late or slow response to this report, I just found the req for more info in my email spam bin, my sincerest apologies!
Yes the issue is resolved by updating to the latest version.....sorry I'm just a tad bit miffed off right now.... I typed a huge long comment reply here explaining why I was using an older version of Firefox, so an addon I was using would work, it had issues with the latest or newer versions of FF.
Anyways... The nice explanation I wrote just went kahblooey buh byes because I hit FORWARD in FF by mistake, gee, you'd think FF and this Bugzilla system would be a weeeeeee bit smarter and know how to somehow cache or remember already typed characters and paragraphs in the add comment entry box. (or anywhere else for that matter).
But alas, my faith in such things you'd think would and SHOULD be VERY obvious has been shattered, shaken and thrown into a state of utter confusion and psychological pain, hurt and unexpected mental turmoil!

There, I feel better now, I punched my keyboard VERY hard. Get that in your pipe and smoke it Mozilla!
(Can you sense the seething anger?)
heh.
Yes, This issue (Initial lag upon loading or running of a new instance of FF) is confirmed resolved, I'll see if I can figure out how to set this report to the proper status.
I thank you all for your assistance, I'm working on the original issue that gave me the need to downgrade and use an older version of Firefox, in short, it has to do with using a NEW TAB PAGE addon and the URLBAR not being able to focus on and allow me to automatically type text upon load of a new tab page, since a recent update to FF all the new tab page addons no longer let the cursor focus on or select and highlight the text showing in the URLBAR, the cursor now positions itself at the beginning of the text showing, with no selection, highlighting or deletion of the text like it used to do.
The reason I think this should work or fixed is because it cuts down on clicks or mouse moves needed to just begin typing a new search or address in the urlbar, I believe it should be, for ease of use, automatic that the urlbar is selected and the text shown is highlighted.
Some of these new tab page addons for customizing what page you want to open upon load of a new tab allow you to Set focus to the web page (which normally puts the cursor in any text entry box on the page that may be there) instead of the address bar, they also allow you to set the custom page address, I use https://www.google.com/ncr (NCR merely disables the country redirect that Google does when it figures out your country location from your IP address).
Anyhow, With that said, I'll see what I can do in regards to the original problem with the cursor focusing in the URLBAR in conjunction with a NEW TAB PAGE addon.
If anyone has a solution, or knows if Mozilla will be addressing this so these type of addons will work as expected again?
Or even if there's an ABOUT:CONFIG setting I can change to fix it? Or maybe Mozilla might implement one so users can toggle text focusing on the URLBAR on or off, and allow for choosing between cursor focusing on the URLBAR and or the webpage itself and subsequent search or text entry box, this would be ideal!
Thanks again for your time! I look forward to your response!
Also, In regards to the secondary issue which has nothing to do with this report here, with the URLBAR text focusing probably should be discussed via email directly as it's unrelated to this Bugzilla post and that's perfectly fine with me, In fact, I look forward to hearing from you, this secondary issue has been frying my brain for sure.
Sincerely, Daniel.

Hi Daniel,
Thank you very much for your response.
My suggestion is to open another bug for any issue that you encounter in FF, this will help us to separate them.
About the initial issue, based on your comment I will mark it as resolved WFM.
Thanks for your time and support.
