Go to http://www.dnalounge.com/cam/ and click on the image on the right, to get a decoration-free JS-created popup window, displaying an image that auto-reloads every 30 seconds. Now let's assume that something went wrong -- you got a bad image, or the network connection is stalled, or whatever. You need to hit reload. Click on the context menu -- oops, there's no "Reload". Nor is there "Document Info", or "Show Menubar", or anything useful that applies to the document as a whole -- or that lets you *reach* those sorts of commands *in any way*. It eventually occurred to me to try clicking outside the image -- in that itsy bitsy 5-pixel black border between the image and the window manager decoration -- the "Reload" item is on the context menu there. But I'll just *bet* there's some way (with CSS or something) for me (as the document author) to have made this document not have a border at all, so that everything in the window was consumed by the JPEG. If I had done that, there would *be* no non-image pixels in this window, and I (as the user) would be unable to get to Reload at all. Not that I think the obfuscated micro-target I have to find now is reasonable. But I suspect that on some pages, it wouldn't even exist at all. This is just another example of how misguided is your idea that context menus should not include "the document as a whole" as one of their contexts. One of the most important contexts is "the browser". You've changed things so that the menus contain only the most focussed possible context and disregard any bigger picture contexts.

No, I don't think this is a dup of bug 35130. That bug is: "I wish there was a context menu to reload images." This bug is: "when all that is visible on the page is a single image, there is no way to reload the page, or view info, or view source, or..." I think those are different things, and fixing bug 35130 (by adding a "reload this image" menu item) would not fix this bug.

Agreed on that. The problem is much more serious than that. I wonder if I should file a new bug and dup this to that one, instead of changing most of aspects of this one. First: Reopening. That's not "Reload image" but "Reload page" availablity matter. Second. Change Summary to cover the whole problem, not just the subset. It's large chunk of menu missing when right-clicking on 'active' element of a page, like a link or an image. Exactly what's missing (comparing to NS4.78) Back Forward Reload View page source View page info Add Bookmark ("Bookmark this page" in Mozilla) Send Page For me, lack of 'back' is most painful - it's my preferred method of navigation when the opened window is large and moving the cursor to the "back" button is uncomfortable. (note "back" appeared always on top of the context menu, just under the cursor!) In this case I must find some "free" area of the page, not a textbox, link, image etc. If the image fills up whole page and that's a "kiosk" type window (i.e. without navigation/menu bars, just webpage) it's additional problem - if you don't remember keyboard shortcuts (I don't), you're stuck - can't go back. Third: Because of reasons mentioned above, adding keyword "4xp" This is not really a bug, this is lack of a very useful (in some contexts critical) feature. Changing Severity to enhancement Fourth: Changing platform and OS to 'All' and adding 'Verifyme' keyword. If 'worksforme' on other platforms/OS, please just change platform/OS back to PC/Linux. If I missed any features missing from 4.x please mention them. Suggested solution: Add items "back, forward, reload, stop" as in menu of not-special area, and a sub-menu of "this page >" with all the rest (just as "this frame >" is done.

This is not 'verifyme' since that only applies to resolved bugs. See also bug 144925 and bug 145107 which are about removing all non-image-specific and non-link-specific items from the context menus of images and links.

Um, I don't understand how this is supposed to be duplicate of bug 69099, which seems to be about (un)hiding menu bar. This bug being duplicate of bug 135331 would more understandable...

hezu+mozilla@iki.fi: this bug wasn't asking for back and forward. It was asking for reload, page info, bookmark this page, etc.
