Derek: Had you ever another build than RC2 installed on your PC? Mozilla gets sometimes confused by Configurationfiles of older builds, try to start mozilla with a new profile (mozilla.exe -profilemanager) and create a new profile.. does that help?

This was actually on someone elses computer that I was using via VNC. But yet, he did have Netscape 6.x installed at one point. However I went in and totally deleted the C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla folder which holds the profiles in WinMe. Then re-installed Mozilla and everything worked great. Then suddenly the back and forward buttons stopped working again.

How long did it work after you deletet the profile data? Did it work until you startet Netscape? See also Bug 67312 , comment 1 & 2 Try to make a profile for Netscape 6 and a DIFFERENT profile for Mozilla.. Mozillas and NS6's profiles are incompatible...

Let me rephrase: I uninstalled Netscape. I uninstalled the existing Mozilla. I deleted the C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla directory, removing ALL profiles. I then proceded to install Mozilla 1.0 RC2. The back button worked for a while, then stopped working. ********Netscape is not on the system.*************** **********No old versions of Mozilla are on the system*********** *********Mozilla 1.0 RC2 & Internet Exploiter are the *ONLY* browsers on the system****** *I am fully aware that Netscape profiles are incompatiable with Mozilla profiles.*

Please click on Edit Menu --> Preferences. Click on History under the browser
tab. What does the text field under "Session History" say. It should be a number
> 0. when you are stuck with a non-working back forward buttons, are you able to
navigate to previous pages using the Go menu? Are pages added to the Go menu as
you visit them? Do you have a url in which the back and forward buttons were
totally broken? Please respond to the above questions, as I can not proceed
without having these details.
cc'ing jag. This is the third bug I have that simply says, the back forward
buttons don't work with a new installation or new profile. Any clues?

Hi, I was having the same problem, the back and forward buttons were always disabled. I resolved it by entering "50" in the session history field. Session history field was orginally empty. It might be a good idea to set the session history to 10 if the user deletes the original value by mistake. Adnaan Sikandar

Do we really need session history to be configurable?
