1444009 - Firefox Dev and Nightly become slower and less-responsive and eat 1-2 GB of my RAM for opening a single page since the last update

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/58.0.3029.110 Safari/537.36 Edge/16.16299

Steps to reproduce:

Opening a page or two, any page. Reddit, github, medium, udacity, etc.


Actual results:

It goes slower, unresponsive, the link sometimes become unclickable, the video goes "the sound appears but the video won't move", etc, and obviously eats 1 GB of RAM average and more than 2GB of RAM at peak (for opening one or two page). The CPU at peak goes to 40%.


Expected results:

It should've run smooth and not eaten that much of RAM.

Hi apanji,

I have tested this with the latest nightly by navigating on few websites. But I could not manage to see such memory usage.

Could you please provide a memory report?

Here are the steps to generate a memory report:

1. Wait until memory usage is high
2. Open a new tab and type "about:memory" into the address bar and hit enter
3. Click on the "Measure and save..." button
4. Attach the file to this bug.

Firefox Nightly v61.0a1 used 1GB of RAM for opening 2 pages.

I'm not seeing anything bad on the memory side, a perf profile might help [1].
