Steps to reproduce:

All in german...
I want to install a german spell check dictionary. In discover add-ons I used different search terms ("Wörterbuch", "spell check", "dictionary").

Finally I downloaded the dictionary from the mozilla add-ons webpage and installed it. This is fine for me as a workaround. But it took me a while to find it and I guess many unexperienced users just will not get theyr spelling checked. 


Actual results:

The german spell check dictionary can not be found.


Expected results:

The german dictionary (https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/user-media/addons/_attachments/3077/german_dictionary-2.0.6-an+fx+sm+tb.xpi?filehash=sha256%3Ad7341785739bbb22712a0cc466c9d55ea309eec9800e0af2c480f960f84938f8) should be found.

Well, if you consult https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/language-tools/ you will see three dictionaries. The one from Björn and KaiRo are somewhat competing, they have different stories behind them, KaiRo once explained it to me.

Note that I don't maintain German, Thunderbird localization, or AMO. I just triage incoming bugs to Mozilla Localizations, so I'm really not the right person to answer this.

The difference to bug 1445611 is, this here is about finding the dictionary addon when searching for addons.
But bug 1445611 is about finding the dictionary when being already on the right page.

When I go to https://addons.mozilla.org/de/thunderbird/ and search für "Wörterbuch", the correct add-on is the first hit: https://addons.mozilla.org/de/thunderbird/search/?q=w%C3%B6rterbuch&appver=&platform=

NOT reproducible with Daily 56.0a1 (2017-07-30) (64-bit):

1. Launch "Write Email" window
2. Type some Message Body text
3. ˋRightclick → Languages → Add more Directoriesˊ  
   » leads to <https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/language-tools/>, which is the
     appropriate web page for dict. download

a) Same fine result with menu ˋTools → Options → Composition → Spelling → Download more Dics.ˊ
b) Menu ˋHelp → Help Contenst → Search for "Dictionaries"ˊ has 
   "How to Install and Use another Language in the Dictionary on Thunderbird" as first hit, 
   related page suggests proceeding (a) and additionally proceeding as per my STR

So I can't see any obstacles. I suggest to close this one (WFM)

Right, searching for "Wörterbuch" returns good results (after clicking on "17 Weitere Resultate anzeigen") Why are these 17 results (the good results) hidden at first?

But searching for "deutsch", "german", "Rechtschreibung", "dictionary" returns no results.

Closing this bug based on past comments. While there is certainly an opportunity for improvements to the search algorithm on AMO/ATN, this isn't something the Thunderbird team will handle here in Bugzilla. We hope that the AMO team will improve searches and we can benefit from the change.
