App update overwrote the Firefox in my build directory

I built a debug build of Firefox and then ran tests with "mach test". At the start of the run the app update progress bar appeared saying it was updating Firefox. After it went away the tests ran as normal, but they were not running in a debug Firefox. I verified from logs that it was still running Firefox from the object directory. As far as I can tell my normal Firefox downloaded and staged an update, and then when I ran my debug build it found the staged update and applied it to my object directory. Maybe mach or something should stop this from happening? I do have --enable-update-channel=nightly in my mozconfig but that is my only strange config. Does that cause this behaviour?
