Emails not being ever checked in new directories/tags on IMAP account due to option unchecked by default

Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0
Build ID: 20180315233128
Steps to reproduce:
Not clicking specific inbox folder for months.
Actual results:
Thunderbird recognized the existence of an important email only after clicking the directory. 38 days to late. Before this situation, all folders worked as intended (generating notification and listing new emails).
Expected results:
By default, all emails should be listed and generate notifications, regardless of folder.
By looking into this issue I learned of related option (second checkbox in properties), which is deselected everywhere without action on my part. It is also deselected for newly created folders which is just insanely wrong.
This bug continues with updates performed (38.5 -> 45.8 -> 52.7).
Solution: change the default to not ignore emails, obviously.

Are you using server side filters?
And things change between releases, so please always be absolutely specific in what you are seeing ("related option (second checkbox in properties)" isn't a great description)

Yes, although in this case for sorting and Gmail calls those folders "labels".
When folder is created in Thunderbird, checkbox is unselected all the same.

IMAP account, folder properties, "when getting new messages for this account, always check this folder".

What if you do right+click folder > properties > repair?
(and then also check that you still have properties "when getting..." on the folder)

On folder repair that checkbox persists with its state unchanged for both starting states. Same with whole inbox repair.
Does that question imply that it is an anomaly to have such a checkbox (if IMAP used) at all? My thunderbird goes back to 13.0.1.
If it is not an anomaly then it would seem to be a design error for the box to be silently unchecked by default.

Sound very old. Perhaps as old as Bug 422729? - IMAP unread message count frequently incorrect if using server-side mail filters

Reporter, can you still reproduce this problem using a recent version, currently version 78?

My install updated to 78.7.1.
Both thunderbird-created & gmail-created[1] directories(tags) still not checked on IMAP by default.
[1] Not seen on thunderbird until program restart.
Last question noticed due to report closing because of lack of my answer which had 0.1% chance of being "it is fixed now".
