Steps to reproduce:
OSX 10.13.3, Update to 52.7.0
Actual results:
Default S/MIME setting for all profiles is (for many years) "sign, do not encrypt".
New message window opens now with "do not sign / encrypt"
Expected results:
New message window should open with "sign, do not encrypt" like it has been till yesterday.

As far as I'm aware, we haven't touched that area between 52.6 and 52.7. Can you reset the preference to the desired value?
Maybe it is the new Enigmail 2.0?
Because if I start Thunderbird without add-ons, it works like expected with default settings (sign, no encryption).

So now I only deactivated Enigmail - Thunderbird and S/MIME work like expected.
After reactivating Enigmail the problem returns, so I will contact Enigmail.

Yes, it's an issue that was reported to Enigmail. I'll look into it.
