I've got 17MB + bookmark JASON file.
I need more flexibility in searching bookmarks.
I need to search strictly within a folder.
I need search folder names.
I need to see bookmark with multiple folder entries.


Actual results:

This task seems to cover multiple requests. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines explains that tasks should cover only one request. So this might get closed as invalid...

No other bug report for this, as far as I can find. Editing the summary accordingly.

The lack of this very basic feature renders the bookmark manager useless for any serious work. I have a hundred folders with a hundred bookmarks each, on average. I need some basic ability to limit my search to certain folders.

So please, please consider adding some basic search limitations like in particular "in this folder only". It would really really be of great help for anybody who is using Firefox in a serious way. This is a very central, basic ability. People have thousands and thousands of bookmarks. They need to be able so search them properly.

Example:
Let's say a professional user has 50,000 bookmarks (a researcher)
He has 20 folders in the root.
1 folder is named "medical light therapy", and has many subfolders.
1 folder is named "LED technology", and has many subfolders too.

There is thus considerable overlap between these folders in terms of search terms.
It will be impossible to limit your search to one folder.

The same also applies to this frequent situation:

Users keep bookmarks in session-based folders ("save all tabs"). In such folders, hundreds of booksmarks accumulate each.
-> It is impossible to search individual folders.

The global search is thus immensily unhelpful and yields too many results in many user scenarios.

Please re-consider elevating this to a higher priority level.

I'd like to suggest adding:

• Bug #406157 (same thing but in the sidebar)
• Bug #526219 (folders filtering search in the quick-add popover widget when you click the ⭐ button)

…to the "See also:" field (I don't have the ability to do that myself).
