Currently when a user saves an item from New Tab to Pocket, there is no confirmation that it has been saved except that the context clue is updated to "Saved to Pocket". When a user bookmarks an item from New Tab, the experience is much closer aligned with saving a bookmark from the search bar (i.e door-hanger appears, and bookmarks animation is triggered). Pocket saves should follow this model as well.
This was actually done intentionally. The Pocket API that we are now using (different than before) doesn't provide us a way to just call the doorhanger. We had set uiwanted in Bug 1432657 asking specifically about the doorhanger (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1432657#c2) and it was decided that we shouldn't bother with the doorhanger, see the discussion here: https://github.com/mozilla/activity-stream/pull/3975#discussion_r168009759
