And, is this beta 60 (which hasn't been released yet) or nightly version 60 - which is now rather old.

I did not try in safe mode. This has happened at least once per day.
You're saying that this version is old; which version should I be running?

Are you running beta? Or nightly? (or, what URL did you use to get it?)
Regardless, I'm guessing you didn't just start running this version you are reporting, correct?
Does it happen if you start Windows in safe mode?

Got it from FileHippo. It says the current version is 52.7 but I'm running the beta version 60.0b1. The beta version is a lot higher then the regular version. With Firefox, the beta versions are just slightly higher. Yes, I just switched over from MS Office Outlook. I have been running the 64 bit of Firefox so I figured that since Thunderbird is being updated regularly, that's the way to go right?
So what version should I run and why?

OK, just so that everyone knows, the problem still exists with the new beta. It is sporatic, but happened three times today. I read the message and then delete it and Thunderbird freezes. If I hit wait till Thunderbird responds, it does after 3 to 5 minutes.

There can be 10 messages or less, sometimes more. The program hangs for about 3 minutes and then comes back to life and the message is finally deleted. This happens at least once a day.

(more precise) What is the size in MB or KB?
What antivirus software do you have installed

Antivirus is AVG free. Right now, 114KB of trash. Should I empty the trash bin every so often?

I empty mine daily to weekly (varies)
Your 114k is small so it's not likely related to trash size.
What happens if you put an exclusion in AVG for the thunderbird profile directory?

I have it set to empty the trash every day when I shut the computer down. I have not tried AVG exclusion but at this point (happened again this morning) it's not a big deal. Just wait three minutes and then it works again. Thanks for your help.
