Steps to reproduce:

I wrote a long email in Google Docs using Arial font then copied and pasted into Thunderbird for sending. When editing the email, every time I hit the back spade key, it turned on bold and I had to turn it off manually to maintain proper formatting.


Actual results:

I tested and without the copy and past from Google Docs this bug does not occur. If I copied from Notepad, or copied Doc text into Notepad before copying into the email, the unexpected bold from a Backspace does not occur. I also copied and pasted and then changed the font, and the bug still occurs. So I suspect something in Google Docs formatting is being misread by Thunderbird as Ctrl-B.


Expected results:

It should not bold except by clicking on the Bold key. I could not test from other Word Processors. I think it is something specific to Docs, perhaps something in their paragraphing.

You should install the add-on ThunderHTMLedit and check the HTML source to see whether there is any bold hiding anywhere.

I've just copied Arial text from Google Docs and using backspace doesn't turn on bold.
