Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0
Build ID: 20180326160923
Steps to reproduce:
Shell commands to reproduce:
cd ~
mkdir 'test ing'
cd 'test ing'
echo 'test' > test.html
then right-click test.html file to open in firefox
My OS is Ubuntu MATE 17.10 fully updated and my firefox version is 59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.17.10.1
Actual results:
Instead of opening the file, a new firefox window will open with two tabs. One with path 'file:///home/$USER/test' and another with path 'ing/test.html' that the browser will them try to match with some url (https://www.ing.com/test.html) that will give 404.
Expected results:
One tab with path 'file:///home/nikolaos/test%20ing/test.html' (I 'm assuming here that firefox will handle the space like chrome does) showing the fire as intented.

FWIW, I can't reproduce with Ubuntu 17.10 and both the distro provided Firefox and Firefox Nightly.

I am not sure how to further debug this issue. What can I provide that will help find the cause?
It might be MATE related, or it may be the languages installed (en_GB [English UK] and gr [Greek Simple]). I created an example that doesn't have greek letters in the path but I don't know how things work behind the scenes.
I posted about this in the MATE forums
https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/firefox-doesnt-open-local-html-files-with-space-in-path/16483
as well and hopefully people may say if they were able to reproduce it.

I tried with non ASCII text (Πολύ καλός) and I still can't reproduce your bug, sorry. It seems people in the forum thread can't reproduce either.

I tried to reset firefox (with safe mode and by deleting .mozilla) but both didn't work. I then uninstall firefox following all steps here
https://askubuntu.com/a/16763
and re-installed but the problem was still there.
I then uninstalled it again with the same process and installed Nightly through the Ubuntu PPA. The problem went away.
Looking at the release calendar the problem came on my machine after 59 was installed. I guess I 'll stay with Nightly for a while, like the purple colors :)

ok, let's mark this as WorksForMe then since we can't reproduce the bug reliably. Thanks for taking the time to file a bug and enjoy Nightly!
