When you have umpteen mail messages and if you click on a message header, the
contents of the message (header and body) gets displayed in the bottom window -
so far so good. But if you take a look at the message headers window, you won't
be able to figure out which message is currently displayed, unless your eyes can
sync up the message header and its body in a flash. It would be nice if the
message header of the currently displayed message remains highlighted (selected
or having some kinda focus) in the message headers window. The current work
around to this problem is hitting the tab key 4 times. The first time you hit
the tab key the "current mail folder" gets the focus, the second tab causes the
"search box" to get the focus, the third tab puts the focus on "mozilla" icon,
the 4th tab shifts the focus to the current message header.

This may not sound like a serious problem, but this does bother me almost
everytime I check my emails.

I'd like to confirm this bug in build 2002072203 using Mac OS X. I find that
this lack of highlighting bothers me a lot too, especially when I'm looking at
my Mac Java mail box, where message after message has nearly identical titles.

If you're following GUI guidelines for emphasizing that a component (in this
case the message list) has lost focus, you could still use a highlighted outline
around selected messages as opposed to full highlighting.

I believe the OSX version of this bug (comment 1) is indeed bug 121998.

I tried to see this bug with Win98 build 20021202 and could not repro.
The message in the thread pane remains highlighted, but with a lighter color to
indicate no focus.

I'm using Modern; what theme are you using, Suresh?

Suresh Mani, is this bug still a problem for you?  Have you upgraded to a 
current (1.3 or 1.4) build of Mozilla?
This does look like a duplicate of bug 121998.
