This is by design.

Jennifer, can you update http://www.mozilla.org/mailnews/specs/mailnotify/ to
reflect this? Thanks.

Hmm..I thought this was decided.

Under 'Open Issues Popup Alerts', see item number 3.

'What if two or more accounts get new messages at the same time? Does one alert
with multiple lines appear or do separate alerts appear one after the other?
Currently, we check one account after another, so each the first account checked
would trigger the alert. If one acct receives new mail first, and you don't
click any accounts, bif won't go off again for the next account. Or should it be
once per account? '

The current design per mscott is:
Currently, we check one account after another. The first account with new
messages will trigger the alert. The alert will not go off again until the "new"
notification is acknowledged/cleared by selecting the account or requesting new
messages.

Changes/enhancements should be RFE bugs.
Guess I'll confirm this and set it to RFE status, then. I'm sure I'll have
others to DUP against this.
Severity: normal → enhancement
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Summary: If there are new mails for diferent mail accounts the new mail notification only shows one account → If there are new mails for different mail accounts the new mail notification only shows one account

Still there with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4b)
Gecko/20030507
And pretty annoying
Thanks

At least show the new mail alert for the primary (default) account.

Ideally, show the new mail alert for ALL accounts:

+-----------------------+
| ABC: 22 new messages | <-- default account on top
| XYZ: 5 new messages |
+-----------------------+

This is also the case when starting up MailNews and you have more than one
account marked "Check for new messages at startup". Only one account shows a
notification.

still there in 1.7a...

To clarify the problem...

I have seven email accounts. If all of them have new messages waiting when I start up Thunderbird, the notification from the first server that responded with new mail (not necessarily the same account each time) is displayed seven times.

Instead, one notification from each of the accounts should be shown in this situation.

This is a MAJOR annoyance for people who have multiple email accounts.
Please ignore my last comment - it was intended for Thunderbird.
