Steps to reproduce:

On common Voice website record the sentences. Play back the recordings and they're all distorted.

I'm using Firefox for Android beta 61.0b3 on a Nokia 8 with Android 8.1.0


Actual results:

The recordings are always distorted. I tested on other websites and the recordings are distorted there too. Other apps on my phone record clearly and without any distortion.


Expected results:

Recordings should be clear and without distortion.

Could you please share the website where you tried this? I've tried on a couple of sites on Nightly and Beta and the issue does not seem to reproduce for me.

Could you also verify with the latest Beta and see if the issue still persists?

I also tried various online microphone test websites which record the microphone and play it back. I had the same problem with them but can't remember the addresses.

Could it actually be a problem with playback from some objects? What I mean is, the recording is fine, but the format which the website plays back the recording is getting distorted for some reason.

To clarify, I don't have any other audio problems with Firefox for Android, only this specific case of recording from my phone and then playing it back within Firefox.

And to repeat, I don't have this problem with any other app on my phone. But, I've not tried voice.mozilla.org with any other browser, I'll try and do this if I get chance. (obviously I wouldn't normally use any other browser ;) )

Tested on 61b13 and it still doesn't work. Tested on Chrome on Android and it works fine.

Thanks Bogdan, this is helpful because I was about to raise a bug with my phone manufacturer (HMD/Nokia) since it looked like only I had the problem. Now I think you confirm it's a problem with Firefox on Android :(

I've been using Nightly for a while now and the problem is still present, on both nightly and beta.

By chance I decided to test this again today and it worked! My phone has received a few updates since my last test, including from Android 8.1 to 9.0, so it could be that these changes fixed something in the API.

Or was this an intentional fix by the Common Voice or Fennec team?
