(In reply to pwalsh from comment #2) > When I save as eml and then open the eml 2 of the 3 images will open. Right, only 0525_1.jpg and packing list.jpeg open. From the Thunderbird interface the ia=mage viewer is unable to open the image. I get an invalid file header message.

(In reply to Jorg K (GMT+2) (bustage-fix and urgent reviews only) from comment #5) > Sorry, but the message you supplied had the attachment deleted: > You deleted an attachment from this message. The original MIME headers for > the attachment were ... Yes I realise I deleted the attachment. That has created confusion. My apologies. My problem is not with the particular attachment I deleted. I have several emails with attachments I cannot open in Thunderbird. My workaround is to save as eml file. However I am unable to view the attachments unless I save them as an eml file. We have several Thunderbird users who are encountering the same problem. Do you have a Thunderbird email account so that I can send one of the problem emails and you can see what is happening.

So attach an e-mail where the attachment cannot be opened but is *not* deleted. Also, do these messages reside in IMAP folders? I noticed that some of the attachments don't have the correct type of image/jpeg but instead application/octet-stream. Not being able to open attachments of type application/octet-stream in IMAP folders is bug 1418444.

I'm getting a bit bored here :-( The attachments in the e-mail are deleted: Content-Type: application/octet-stream; name="WechatIMG10.jpeg" Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="WechatIMG10.jpeg" X-Mozilla-External-Attachment-URL: file:///C:/Users/admin/Desktop/eLocal/WechatIMG10.jpeg X-Mozilla-Altered: AttachmentDetached; date="Tue May 08 15:02:18 2018" You deleted an attachment from this message. The original MIME headers for the attachment were: Content-Type: application/octet-stream; name="WechatIMG10.jpeg" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="WechatIMG10.jpeg"

Have now attached the original message before I messed around with it.

All these pictures open when the message is in a local folder. Kindly answer comment #7: Also, do these messages reside in IMAP folders? I noticed that some of the attachments don't have the correct type of image/jpeg but instead application/octet-stream. Not being able to open attachments of type application/octet-stream in IMAP folders is bug 1418444.

Messages do reside in IMAP folders. Users using Outlook are able to open the attachments.

You can either copy the message to a local folder or select the IMAP folder for offline use in the synchronisation settings. Both will make the images available until bug 1418444 is fixed.
