User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 Build ID: 20180530201719 Steps to reproduce: Tried to play a video on Netflix (while logged in): https://www.netflix.com/watch/80186608?trackId=14277281&tctx=0%2C0%2C9607a2af-4fe3-4802-8421-9fd36e624405-34242447%2C%2C Actual results: Got 'Playback Error' from Netflix, error Code: F7702-1003. At top, Firefox said the 'WidevineCdm plugin' has crashed. When I tried to hit 'submit a bug report', the popup disappeared, but it didn't submit a bug report. Expected results: Should have played the video.
Forgot to mention, this happened every time I loaded the page, not just once.
Created a new (empty) profile for testing; the problem was still present.

Bryce, can you have a quick initial look at this please and check if this is related to bug 1443637?

Looks similar. I've not been able to repro since reporting bug 1443637, so hard to be sure. jyn514, does the error happen immediately when attempting to play netflix videos? When using Shaka player does the error happen immediately? I've had to use a different link that the one from the other bug report, but do see an error when trying https://shaka-player-demo.appspot.com/demo/#asset=https://storage.googleapis.com/shaka-demo-assets/angel-one/dash.mpd;lang=en-US;build=uncompiled, though it doesn't happen immediately and I don't get the CDM crash report. Could you also copy and paste the 'media.gmp-widevinecdm.version' value from about:support?
Flags: needinfo?(bvandyk) → needinfo?(jyn514)
The error happens immediately on load, yes, for both Netflix and Shaka. Bug is also present for the new link you just gave. media.gmp-widevinecdm.abi x86_64-gcc3 media.gmp-widevinecdm.lastUpdate 1528492452 media.gmp-widevinecdm.version 1.4.8.1008

huh, `about:support` also had a link to the auto-generated report. Didn't realize it had actually submitted. https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/e7f83ecf-d9ff-4b2c-a6fa-a1c291180611

Hello everyone, got the same problem here. its a Debian stable machine. Kernel Log gives: plugin-containe[28317]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f4f45b1cbba sp 00007fffb07dec38 error 6 in libxul.so[7f4f44bcd000+4e6f000] two lines each time I try to play a movie.
Joshua, are you still having issues with this? strde, could you let me know the value of media.gmp-widevinecdm.version in about:support? Could you also let me know if you've got a crash report on that same page. The crash in comment #7 looks related to sandboxing, but based on looking at the reports, has not happened in recent versions.
Hi Bryce, that is a fast reaction, here is the version from about:support media.gmp-widevinecdm.version 1.4.8.1008 The Firefox is a 60.2.0esr it got recently updated to this one.
since it throws a kernel error: maybe incompatibilities with Kernel version Linux 4.9.0-8? I use another machine where it works without problems: Kernel 4.18.0-1 media.gmp-widevinecdm.version 1.4.8.903
It's possible, though hard to say. Do you have any crash reports from the failing machine -- you can check in about:crashes or there's a list of recent crashes in about:support? Does the issue always happen, or is it intermittent?
It happens all the time i try to watch netflix :( about:crashes list is long: Unsubmitted Crash Reports Report ID Date Crashed 70553b65-dbcb-5e51-70f0-4d37e5000b14 19/09/2018 20:11 358bb483-6d3b-9a00-61e2-455762df9918 19/09/2018 20:10 2e58ed0d-6d48-4183-5e2f-5c2a56d3ff1d 19/09/2018 20:10 7546febe-fea5-a161-0424-8232fb8d1e0b 19/09/2018 19:59 3e2722cd-556f-175a-60d5-f927cf320e1c 19/09/2018 19:57 05705180-7b01-b705-49cc-f57ffc512d5f 19/09/2018 19:57 203545a5-0b11-0140-e690-404bfcb09a24 19/09/2018 19:57 042125f5-7b9e-52d7-6048-1d3168cf502e 18/09/2018 23:01 7c166a91-4e0d-0727-8130-eb32e021b226 18/09/2018 22:51 7a27b90a-6f2e-2987-333e-e771bf823a39 18/09/2018 22:43 0e88f99f-0e43-069d-2726-0e3884ed1351 18/09/2018 22:43 788fb7cb-0214-f858-3c60-d55a5da24f43 18/09/2018 22:43 41287e69-a03f-df40-4ddb-4f5bd91d743e 18/09/2018 22:37 77634568-cc03-c667-2b3b-0377d2f68977 18/09/2018 22:37 0d1cdeac-9491-5202-13b6-bb17b985c97b 18/09/2018 22:31 5812d653-bf28-fae7-1bb4-6e7a3ae5b74f 17/09/2018 23:48 029fb791-026b-5d84-06dd-712f26ca8434 17/09/2018 23:48 2a175cdf-3171-58a7-5de8-bb2f79add128 17/09/2018 23:48 4c361a33-5a41-688f-37b7-376f78e59806 13/09/2018 23:35 22cf0dd9-25e8-0731-8b2a-63350c8edc38 13/09/2018 23:16 7ad2b826-cba1-f1ce-5bcc-6a7da8e30951 10/09/2018 20:55 299579e0-e486-78d3-fcef-1e010d73953d 10/09/2018 20:55 2f9a6398-ac53-0fd1-3c86-434824d3e27d 10/09/2018 20:55 457c8191-20a4-9708-2a15-e524b97b204e 10/09/2018 20:55 6bc62a8a-4521-9b83-3d43-94768178fb2c 10/09/2018 20:55 515b228d-aa4c-4edc-73dd-a56ee7e79240 10/09/2018 20:55 764b6b88-20c7-93d9-8b8f-d5736736c408 10/09/2018 20:55 2057c481-d7af-c80f-0d99-b231c7a88d2d 10/09/2018 20:55 77253003-af39-bdbe-fc6b-1855edf9c032 10/09/2018 20:55 31bc0eb9-62b3-a52f-5d01-a452b0ca8a7f 29/08/2018 22:28 262009bf-ad63-6503-efbe-276716856d46 29/08/2018 21:41 6a936d78-1bd9-e998-8cf4-712c908f4f65 29/08/2018 21:29 2acb2377-51df-a1fb-e5a8-b201eb5e1c41 29/08/2018 21:28 2bf52f5e-ec18-8354-7699-98117891a81b 29/08/2018 21:25 36d78eed-8c21-b8db-bf27-7f325f4be270 29/08/2018 21:25 4ccdac70-2695-7bad-fb06-b35bd12ff12c 29/08/2018 21:22 031a2244-d59b-a3a1-cd3e-751ae9048d2c 29/08/2018 21:22 Submitted Crash Reports Report ID Date Submitted bp-52000a40-2ded-4d1a-83bb-29d710180919 19/09/2018 21:32 bp-b9e231d4-f7de-400a-9e35-8f1400180910 10/09/2018 20:55
Is there a version of WidevineCdm for Intel Atom? if that is the case then these crash reports are irrelevant: Submitted Crash Reports Report ID Date Submitted bp-52000a40-2ded-4d1a-83bb-29d710180919 19/09/2018 21:32 bp-b9e231d4-f7de-400a-9e35-8f1400180910 10/09/2018 20:55 Eventhough the error could be more explicit in that case. Thanks for your help guys!
I'm having this issue too, ever since Netflix announced it would work on Linux Firefox, CDM crashes. Kernel 4.18.16-200.fc28.x86_64 media.gmp-widevinecdm.version 1.4.9.1088 Actually when I switch *SELinux* to _Permissive_, it works: `sudo setenforce 0` Joshua sent the right error from SELinux. I guess we'll need to talk to some package maintainer to deliver the right SELinux conf?

For me a `restorecon -R .mozilla/firefox/` fixed the issue (:

Can confirm the Shaka player linked a few months ago also works now, as does Amazon Music :)

Still crashing in FF64 32bit. What the heck, guys? Is there any way to manually install the Widevine update that is lacking?

nemesis, can you link to your crash reports relating to the issue?

Yes indeed. That looks like a new crash, as the issue here is specific to Linux. Could you please create a new bug and let us know the steps that cause the crash, the links to those crash reports, and a copy of the information from about:support (via the copy text to clipboard button)?

You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug.
