Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_11_6) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/11.1.1 Safari/605.1.15

Steps to reproduce:

I have multiple accounts in my Thunderbird, lets say A and B. I received an event invite (first time ever) in account B (account A not mentioned anywhere in the event). When reading the email a bar is displayed specifying the email contains an event and proposes to accept the event. I clicked to accept the event. While cleaning up my accounts I discovered that the event reply was sent with account A!

This can get people in a lot of troubles as the recipients of the event acceptation now have the account A information!

Actual results:

The event was accepted with the wrong account!

Expected results:

The event should have been accepted with the incoming account
Component: Untriaged → E-mail based Scheduling (iTIP/iMIP)
Product: Thunderbird → Calendar
Version: 60 → Lightning 6.2
Is there an identity configured for the calendar, the event was stored into when accepting the invitation? Was that different then A?

For sending replies the email identity configured in the respective calendar properties (available from context menu in the calendar list in the calendar/task view tab) is primarily used. If there's none, Lightning tries to make a guess based on the email recipient and ultimately falls back as a last resort to the system default email account. The latter is usually the case if the invitation was sent bcc or to a serverside resolved email list, so the email addresses configured in TB email identities cannot be resolved.

If you want to deal with email invitations and be safe to that regard, it is recommended to configure exactly one writable calendar for each TB email identity.

I had only one calendar configured with email A, you seem right this is probably why the reply was sent with the "wrong" email.

It makes sense once explained but honestly it's quite confusing without the explanations. It was the first time I used calendars in TB (been using TB for emails for probably 10 years).

Maybe the calendars should be auto-created for all email accounts or at least asked during creation? Maybe TB should ask what to do in this situation to prevent this kind of mixup for users that don't understand how it works?

Up to you to decide what to do, I'm giving my input to help prevent troubles for other users.

Thank you
