Trying to access the bookmarks list from the Mac menubar's Bookmarks icon causes
the computer to lockup when rc3 freezes up--most times I have tried it.
Trying to access the bookmarks list from the Mozilla toolbar's Bookmarks folder
icon works better than it did in rc2 but the list is still way too slow to open,
especially for the first time after Moz starts up.
WorksForMe using Mac/2002072203. RogerWilco, how large is your Bookmarks file? Would you
attach it to this bug so we can test it? Can you still reproduce this problem using a current build?

Summary: Accessing Large Bookmarks File → Accessing large Bookmarks file freezes computer
Same configuration here, same result. Very large bookmarks file. The menu
freezes without opening, it just hilites then the computer freezes. You can
resolve the hang by force quitting which then causes some other background
program, NOT Mozilla, to quit, and then the bookmarks menu comes down and things
resume. In my case, Dragthing is the usual background app that must be quit,
though if Dragthing is not open, my calendar program is the sacrificial lamb.
Don't know what would happen if there were no background app open.
This does not happen every time. Just now I shut down dragthing and the calendar
program and bookmarks opened normally. Then I opened Dragthing and bookmarks
still opened, however I could no longer type here (letters didn't appear) until
I typed in a different place first.
However, this is the ONLY crash I have gotten in several weeks of Mozilla surfing.

Mac Pismo/2002072203/9.2.1
My Bookmarks file is 464K. After starting up Mozilla, accessing the bookmarks
via the window's favorites menu for the first time works after some delay, then
pretty fast after that. However, trying to access them from the Mac toolbar
usually induces a lockup. Another Mac toolbar item which does this is Mozilla's
Go menu, so I never use either of them. A lot like rbwy's experience.
rbwy@yahoo.com, does Mozilla generate any TalkBack reports after these hangs? How about for you,
RogerWilco?

No talkback reports, rbwy. But the machine freeze happens only when I try to
access the bookmarks from the Mac's menubar, not from the Personal toolbar in
the Mozilla window. So, maybe it's a Mac OS problem? I dunno.

Sorry, not mine. Privacy, ya know.
RogerWilco, might you be able to remove anything private and attach it?

(In case anyone should wonder why this was resolved invalid, here's RogerWilco's

|
| Hey, I *have* removed anything private. All of it is private.
|
| Greg, drop this please. I'm beginning to think you're starting to harrass
| me...
|
| Why not ask someone you know to lend you their personal 450KB or 500KB
| bookmarks file?
|
| Or make your own? After all, it's just a text file. Test it, report back.
|
| Get off my case. Go bug someone else about these blasted bookmarks. I'm
| through with this thread. Thanks.

Nonsense.

" Oohh, Ever....!"
Look, giving up my bookmarks file was asking too much. I see a serious invasion
of my privacy which only a court order has a right to demand, not some Zilla dude
I don't even know. Grow up. I'm 62, retired, and just trying to help out, kinda
like you are, too, eh?
My decision was not a whim. Why don't you harrass the other poster on this? He
never wrote back to you at all! Hell, your cancelling this case does nothing to
fix the problem, Greg. Perhaps it gives you a feeling of power, I dunno. Someone
will report this so-called bug again anyway and you'll only have to deal with it
then.
So how about dealing with this issue without obsessing so about my particular
bookmarks? Frankly, now I don't even think the hang is really a Mozilla problem
but a System problem instead.
I have put in serious time on finding UI bugs, and you are insulting me while I
nonetheless continue to help...! Far out!
Hmmm, or perhaps you have another agenda here, Mr. K?
