On Windows, setting print.extend_native_print_dialog to false makes printing show a more modern looking print dialog which doesn't appear to have any less functionality than the older one and exposes more printer management options in the context menu. Attached a screenshot to show the new and old dialog.
I wonder if it might make sense to change this preference to false by default? If it was originally set to show more options or overcome platform deficiencies it doesn't appear to be doing that anymore.

Looks like the pref doesn't exist anymore and the default behaviour was changed at some point.
