I profiled this but didn't see anything interesting at all. Off the top of my head, I'm going to guess that maybe something is happening with the animated-gif-like .mp4 files.

We could take a patch still in beta 62 if anyone has time to work on this issue. It looks like the team is aware of the issue and triaged it already to P3 so I don't see a need to track it.
Might we also reach out to telegram? It looks to be uncertain if it's really our bug or theirs.

Andrei, can someone from QA take a look at getting STR for 63 nightly? If we can provide a profile maybe that would be useful.

Nils is a better person to answer this than I am.

I tested this issue on Mac OS X 10.14 Beta 4 (18A336e) with FF Nightly 63.0a1 (2018-07-26). Here is a performance profile: https://perfht.ml/2Aba2tz.
The steps that I used are:
1. Open FF with a new profile
2. Go to the link provided in the description http://telegra.ph/Telegram-X-03-26
I also did a screen recording with the issue: https://streamable.com/0478i

Not a recent regression. Thus I think the priority is right.

Not a recent regression, several people in the audio/video team are not available in August and the Beta merge is early September so tracking as fix-optional.

Still reproduces for me on a current Nightly. Can we maybe get someone to take another look at this?
