Details

I've run-out of disk space,
on a Linux Redhat 7.1 operating system
but noticed it only when

 Mozilla 1.0 RC3

lost all my "bookmarks".

Sympthom: "ZERO BYTES"
   ------------------------------------
   ls ~/.mozilla/default/xxxxx.slt/

   ...
   0 Bytes May 26 15:38 prefs.js
   0 Bytes May 26 15:38 localstore.rdf
   0 Bytes May 26 15:38 history.dat
   0 Bytes May 26 15:38 bookmarks.html
   ...
   ------------------------------------

Diagnostic: NO BACKUPS/DISK WRITE PROTECTION
            on the "prefs.js"
            and "bookmarks.html"
            (so) precious files !!!

I admint that this is not exactly a "bug"...
But nevertheless, I suggest that an effort
be made to attempt not to "erase" already
present "bookmarks" and "prefs" files if possible,
even if no more "write" on disk is permitted.

Suggestion:
    ----------------------------------------------
After each succeeded write on these precious files,
make a backup if possible ?
    (something like a "bookmarks.backupXX.html" ???)
    - If the backup isn't doable, a warning to this effect
    could then be launched.
    - If a subsecent write on "bookmarks.html" isn't feasible,
a warning to this effect could be launched
and the path/name of the backup files revealed ?
    ----------------------------------------------

One could suggest restoring the files from the previous
system's backup, but after a few ours of "bookmarks"
-re-ordering-and-clean-up- it's a bit frustrating
to have to start-all-over-again.
(especially when the "bookmarks" got lost more than once)

(a- first-time lost when I migrated from mozilla 0.9XXX
and Netscape 61 to Mozilla 1.0)

(b- second-time lost when disk got full,
but I was unaware and was still trying to add
an URL to the bookmarks... that zeroed in no-bytes at all!!!)

Thanks.
even the "history" is lost
I can't browse the history
to help rebuild the bookmarks....
