User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0
Build ID: 20180704075710

Steps to reproduce:

- Launch firefox
- Try to acces the main menu or any menu from icons (i.e. : download, library, etc...)
or
- Right click -> cutsomize and try to access density or theme dropdown list (toolbar is OK)

Actual results:

Button activate and menu is not shown, but it is enabled (if I blindly click where a menu item is supposed to be, it works)

Expected results:

Menu should be displayed

I joined my latest system upgrade log since the problem appeared right after
How did you install Firefox? Manually by downloading something? Or the version offered by your distribution?
Flags: needinfo?(ggb2)
Installed a few months (year?) ago using the package of my distro

It's the first time I got this problem and I only see this today after the mentionned upgrade (I was already on firefox 61.0 at this time)

As you are using the package provided by your distribution, did you report this to the bug tracker of your distribution and were asked to upstream this problem to Mozilla Bugzilla?
If some upgrade of some other system library caused an issue it sounds like that system library should get fixed instead?
Flags: needinfo?(ggb2)
Nope, I ran directly here because firefox is the only software were a problem like this is clearly visible (maybe its a wrong reason, sorry)

I'm not 100% sure that the upgrade is the culprit here, I did the same upgrade on another linux (Kubuntu 16.04 instead of Mint 18 KDE) and the problem didn't show up

If nobody else complains about this issue, then it would probably mean there's some conflict on my system...

It's not only on your system. There is a similar report in the German-speaking Firefox forum with Kubuntu 16.04 and KDE. It happens for this user since the update to Firefox 61 (he uses the package by the distribution).
At least it's not something weird on my system

I realized that the same pretty annoying problem occurs in another software (FreeCAD 0.18 - a fresh build from sources). So finally, I think it's not related to firefox

I let you mark this as solved/invalid/whatever if needed

And again sorry for the "false positive"
(I can't edit my previous post)

Just FYI, setting the compositing engine from OpenGL2.0 to XRender solved the problem
encountered this after package manger updated mesa to 18.0.5 reverting to 17.2.8 allowed menu to be displayed again

occurred using both binaries from distro package manager, binaries from downloaded from mozilla.org and in tor browser
Attached image Menu dropdowns missing
Having the same issue on 61.0.1+linuxmint1+sylvia with mesa 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~16.04.1. None of the menu or extension dropdowns are visible, even in a clean profile.
Hi,

As hinted in Comment 7, it seems to be a Linux issue related to the compositing engine.
It would be important to know if the problem appeared after making a system update?

It would also be important to exclude the canonical versions, so would you please try with an official mozilla build https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ : could you please compare the results betwen the distro version and the mozilla official and report the results.

One final piece in the puzzle would be to try to enable/disable the compositing engine (See Comment 7).

same as Comment 8, mesa was updated
Flags: needinfo?(13hurdw)
there is a thread about issue on ubuntu bug tracker page, link below

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1780664
^-"Recent libgl-mesa graphics update prevents drop down list menu appearing in apps like firefox three line/bar menu icon"
Flags: needinfo?(damncourier)
seems like updating xserver-xorg-core to version 2:1.18.4-0ubuntu0.8 should solve the problem
The fix is doing his way to the packages

I'll let someone else close this issue and/or marking it as invalid or dupe, just to avoid doing a mistake by myself :)
