(Reporter: macho.p, Unassigned)
Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0
Build ID: 20180704192850
Steps to reproduce:
* Open an existing task or calendar item for editing, so that a new window opens
* Make some changes to it and leave the edit window open
* Now go back to your main calendar or tasks window, and double-click the same item again for editing
Actual results:
* Another window opens in which to edit the same task or calendar item, and you are left with two open windows for the same item with different content, which can overwrite each other's work and changes
Expected results:
* Don't open another edit window, and instead simply change the active window to the already open for editing

Please upgrade your Lightning package. This sounds like Bug 1355151 that was fixed with Lightning 5.4.2 that was released June 23, 2017. The current maintenance release is Lightning 5.4.9 for Thunderbird 52.9.

When I choose "Check for updates" to extensions I get "No updates found".
I assume this is because I am on Thunderbird 52.8.0, which is all that's available on Ubuntu 18.04.
If you can't reproduce this problem, I'm happy to have this issue closed and to wait to see if it still affects me if I ever manage to arrive at 52.9.

I don't know how Ubuntu manages updates of its packages. Maybe uninstall the Lightning package from Ubuntu and manually try a Lightning package from Mozilla? You can download for example Lightning 5.4.9.1 here: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/calendar/lightning/candidates/5.4.9.1-candidates/build3/

Thunderbird refuses my attempt to manually install 5.4.9.1, telling me that it's because it's incompatible with Thunderbird 52.8.
I'm sure there's a way to edit the xpi to have it disregard, but at that point my faint heart already starts to feel queasy.

Is Thunderbird that strict? Maybe try Lightning 5.4.8 that was build together with Thunderbird 52.8: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/calendar/lightning/candidates/5.4.8-candidates/

Excellent! 5.4.8 installed with out issue and, even better, solved the underlying issue.
Thanks so much for your quick & patient follow-up!
