Details
Measuring my bandwidth speed using http://computingcentral.msn.com/
internet/speedtest.asp results in values of 1100 kbps using IE5.1 and
600 kbps for Mozilla and Netscape.
I hope you tried this more than just once.
WorksForMe using FizzillaCFM/2002052305 (RC3). I got the following results on my
two tries:
Mozilla+HTTP Pipelining: 908.3 Kbps, 882.2
IE: 925.8, 902.3
Chimera: 970, 1063.1
Mozilla-HTTP Pipelining: 892.2, 934.3
Results are pretty close. Chris, if you only tested this once, you'll need to
test several times to gather significant data about it.

Just FYI, I tried each browser (IE 5.1 vs Mozilla vs Netscape) five times each
before reporting this as a bug so as to obtain a reasonable sample size.
Chris, can you reproduce the problem using a new Mozilla user profile?

I don't understand what you mean, Greg. I'm doing the bandwidth
speedtest using http://computingcentral.msn.com/internet/speedtest.asp
so I don't know how creating another Mozilla user profile is relevant or will
affect anything.

Greg,
I tried again, this time at work (T1 line, not DSL as I was testing on at
home yesterday). My results, while not quite as dramatic, were similar.
IE5.1 gave an average (over 11 tests) of 1317 kbps, with a high of 1453
and a low of 1140 kbps. Mozilla (over 10 tests) gave and average of 1228,
with a high of 1570.6 and a low of 826. Ok, so Mozilla gave the higher
high, but also the much lower low. Don't know what this necessarily
means.

It sounds like Mozilla may be reporting a slightly lower average overall than
IE, but not as dramatic as you initially reported (which measured IE nearly
twice as fast as Mozilla).
For what it's worth, Chimera appears to give better results than IE. I suspect
the Mach-O build would, also. As Mach-O is going to become the default OS X
build sometime post-1.0, this bug should probably depend on that conversion.

Is this still a problem with 1.1 or later?

Current results using [http://computingcentral.msn.com/]:
FizzillaCFM/2002090508: 786.9 Kbps
IE 5.2.1 (4717): 829.1 Kbps
Chimera/2002090505: 960.7 Kbps
Using [http://speedtest.dslreports.com/]:
FizzillaCFM/2002090508: 1,222 kbps
IE 5.2.1 (4717): 1,223 kbps
Chimera/2002090505: 1,225 kbps
The second test shows all three browsers getting roughly the same speed.
