[Affected versions]: - Firefox 61.0.1, 62.0b13, 63.0a1 (2018-08-01). [Affected platforms]: - Ubuntu 16.04LTS, macOS 10.13 [Steps to reproduce]: 1. Launch Firefox; 2. Access any webpage; ex: https://www.grammarly.com/blog/matt-halfhill-interview/ 3. Click on the Enter Reader View button from the Location bar; 4. Click on the Narrate option in the sidebar; 5. Click on the Play button to start narration. [Expected result]: - The narrated paragraph is highlighted; - each narrated word is highlighted differently. [Actual result]: - narration does not highlight each word just the paragraph. [Regression range]: - will check if it's a regression asap. [Additional notes]: - attached screenshot with the issue; - Windows OS(s) are not affected; - not present in either the narrator themes: light, sepia, dark.
I can't reproduce on macOS with 62b10, b11, b13 or 63a nightly. Can you doublecheck on a separate machine? Why is the screenshot so warped? Are there any errors in the browser console? > - not present in either the narrator themes: light, sepia, dark. What does this mean?

- indeed it's not reproducible on macOS (confirmed on 2 different machines with macOS_10.11, macOS_10.13); - updated the image, it wasn't any error at fault just the save format; - in the Type controls section, you can change the theme of how the page is displayed. In the last info I was referring to that.

Summary: Narrator does not highlight individual word in read paragraphs → [Linux] - Narrator does not highlight/underline individual word in read paragraphs
Could not find a proper regression range. In an attempt to find it: 43.0a1 (2015-09-10) - did not have the narrator/narrate option at all. @Gijs is there any chance that this part was missed or not addressed at all during the initial development on Linux?

Redirecting to Eitan, who implemented this.

Word tracking relies on platform features that don't exist in Linux. Specifically, Speech Dispatcher does not fire word boundary events. This bug can probably be closed as WONTFIX, unfortunately.

Thanks, I'll close the bug then.
