User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.12; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0 Build ID: 20180704003137 Steps to reproduce: I visited this page: I hit command-f and searched for benzyl Actual results: The command-f search bar at the bottom lists 7 results, but searching does not jump to any of these results. Expected results: Searching should jump to the search results.
Another affected page: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4551360/ searching for benzoate, does not jump.
Hi MarjaE, I couldn't reproduce the issue on the "http://drfairchild.blogspot.com/?view=classic" site by searching for "benzyl". In my case, the search result will jump each time after pressing the "Enter" key. As for "benzoate", the search does not find that word on the second site at all. Tried to reproduce it on 3 different Firefox versions (Nightly, Beta, Release) on MAC OS 10.12 and 10.13. Can you please retest the issue using the latest Firefox Release 61.0.2 and latest Nightly 63.0a1 and report back the result? Consider using a new clean Firefox profile (https://goo.gl/AWo6h8) as well as safe mode (https://goo.gl/AR5o9d), to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause.

Not occuring this time, but I can't use safe mode (it's too dangerous) and I might miss an important safety setting or safety tool when configuring a new profile.

Looking forward to know if you encountered the issue again as it was described above. Regarding the safe mode, it will only launch firefox with all add-ons disabled, thus it is safe and highly recommended while searching for the root cause of the issue as add-ons might be one of them. Note that you can create and launch firefox with multiple profiles that do not affect each other! Most of the times custom settings on a profile can cause unintended behaviors. You can switch back anytime to the desired profile since it won't be affected by creating a new one. As I mentioned above, we would like to know if the issue can be reproduced easily with default settings, no add-ons and a new profile. Please feel free to use these methods as they are safe and recommended.

I am strobe-sensitive and need safety tools to use the web. Firefox does not contain these by default. I use about:config fixes, add-ons, user styles, user scripts, and user css to try to protect myself. "Safe mode" disables everything except the about:config fixes, so it is NOT SAFE.

I understand what you mean by "not safe" now, thank you for the clarification. The question regarding the issue still stands up, can you please check it can be reproduced now?
Flags: needinfo?(erwinm)
Still using 61.0.2. The 1st page now works. The 2nd page was screwy because of "recent searches" in the sidebar.

So basically the issue can no longer be reproduced? I'm asking in order to know if further investigations are needed or the bug can be closed.
Flags: needinfo?(erwinm)
I can't reproduce it.

Thank you for the feedback MarjaE. Based on Comment 10 I will close this bug as Resolved - WFM. If you or anyone else can still reproduce it, please re-open the issue.
