I'm investigating improvements to browser tab management under Firefox Focus/Klar and Fenix. In the process of developing a prototype, I determined that it would be really useful to have tab thumbnail generation from the GeckoView renderer so we can show users a representation of the tabs while selecting one. Is this something feasible that could be offered to the browsers on Android without too much overhead? I don't want the tab switcher to have the same behavior and resource needs as the browser tab itself, so it seems a bit much to actually run a GeckoDisplay instance on a Surface if I only need to generate a static thumbnail when the method is called.

Is this thumbnail feature request still relevant now that we have the screenshots API from bug 1462018?
