What feature should be changed? Please provide the URL of the feature if possible. ================================================================================== Given the low activity around Czech MDN content, please remove Czech from MDN. Both content and the project from Pontoon. Very few articles are actually useful. If archiving them is complicated, I think they could be safely deleted. Content from the few interesting articles (seven or eight) is archived elsewhere. What problems would this solve? =============================== There are very few articles translated to Czech. Most of them listed on https://developer.mozilla.org/cs/docs/all are either archived, obsolete, or mostly untranslated anyway. That means very poor experience in case the visitor actually starts on some translated article, and want to navigate to another. From the statistics from :jwhitlock, the traffic is not the highest either. We never actively worked on translating MDN content, and after our meetup last week and some planing, we admitted we do not have the capacity to improve the situation. Who would use this? =================== any Czech visitor What would users see? ===================== original English content What would users do? What would happen as a result? =================================================== Browse MDN in English, which is likely the preferred language for most developers anyway. Is there anything else we should know? ======================================

Pontoon should now support "archiving" project to read-only mode. If possible, instead of completely removing Czech l10n from Pontoon, switch it to the read-only mode instead, so we have access to the history.
Hi John. What is the ETA of removing MDN localization for Czech please? At least from Pontoon, so people are not "wasting" there time by contributing to project we do not maintain anymore.

Michal: This request got tied to bug 1469079, and then that bug was de-prioritized, so this was missed. Unfortunately, the new priority work included quite a few new UI strings. Today, I disabled Czech in the Pontoon interface, and then we pushed some new strings. Hopefully the Pontoon change will prevent you and your team from being notified about new strings for translation. If this is not the case, I can prioritize the next step of manually removing Czech from the repository.

In my rush to disable Czech before the new strings, I disabled Czech in Pontoon. I followed your suggestion to move it to read-only instead.
Thank you John. MDN is now truly read-only in Pontoon. I got the notification in Pontoon (not sure what state was MDN in at that time), but more important is new contributors will pick another more active project. Thank you once again. :)

I'm leaving the MDN team, so I'm moving this back to NEW. I'm adding as a blocker to bug 1469079, so that Czech documents, etc. will be removed when other languages are removed.

Hi :rjohnson.

If I was searching correctly, you are the right person to contact about MDN and l10/i18n, right? May I ask you what is the current state of the option to remove Czech from MDN, please? If it's only about removing support for 'cs' from the configuration, I can try to submit PR for mozilla/kuma.

Also if I may ask you for a favour, can you please remove Czech from the languages available in Pontoon for MDN entirely? After a year we haven't been updating the strings, it's not much beneficial for us anymore.

Thank you,
Michal

Hi Michal,

I'm sorry for my delayed response (work has been overwhelmingly busy)! I have not yet started on this, but I will do so as soon as I can. The Kuma PR is not so simple, so I will take care of that, but thanks for offering your help. I will also entirely remove Czech from the languages available in Pontoon for MDN.

Thanks for your patience!

Cheers,
Ryan

This has been deployed to production, and so this is resolved. Thanks again Michal.

Hi Ryan.

Thank you for working on this ticket. I can confirm that the MDN website does not offer the Czech version anymore. May I also ask you to remove MDN project on Pontoon for the Czech (cs) team too? It's now read-only, but we don't need it anymore now.

Michal

Sorry for the delay on this Michal, but I have been overwhelmingly busy! I finally did this, removing Czech from the MDN Pontoon project as well as all of the other locales that were in read-only mode: af, az, cs, ee, ff, fy-NL, ga-IE, ha, hr, ig, ka, ln, mg, ml, ro, son, sq, sr, sr-Latn, sw, ta, te,tl, tn, wo, xh, yo, and zu. Thanks again, cheers!
