Steps to reproduce:

Open preference page (hamburger button -> Options)



Actual results:

Missing text on the page - checkboxes are visible, but checkboxes' labels are missing


Expected results:

Have page listed correctly

Please not that I work behind corporation proxy, but as you can see from screen shot not able to access proxy setting and change anything.

Does the problem still happen if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? (Safe Mode disables extensions and themes, hardware acceleration and some JavaScript stuff in order to exclude some possible reasons for problems. It does not disable plugins which are add-ons.) And does this also happen with a new and empty profile? See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile and http://support.mozilla.org/kb/Managing%20profiles

Can you open about:support in the broken profile, click "copy raw data to clipboard", then click this link:

(it's the "attach file" link in this bug), then at the top click "paste text as attachment", then paste the about:support stuff you copied earlier in the textbox that appears, and submit that form to attach it?

That'll hopefully help us understand why your existing profile has this issue while a new one doesn't.

Do any errors appear in the browser console (ctrl-shift-j) when you attempt to open about:support?

Reporter: thanks. 2 questions:

- Unfortunately there are a lot of errors here that are / should be unrelated to what you're seeing (e.g. update checks that fail because you're behind a corporate proxy). Can you use the little trashcan/bin button to clear the console, and then try to open about:support again, and only list which errors show up at the point where you open it?

- Does opening the about:support page via the 3-line / hamburger menu (right-hand-side of the toolbar) , then 'Help', then 'Troubleshooting information' work correctly?

- if not, can you open about:config, and if so, tell me the value of `browser.tabs.remote.autostart` ?


Mike, the session store code looks like it's breaking opening URLs... what's that "Tab must be tracked" error about? There's a stack in the txt file... that doesn't look very good?

Given the other issues you're having with opening about:support from the URL bar, do any errors appear in the browser console (after clearing it) when trying to open about:preferences ?

So for some reason when we're attempting to flip the remoteness of a tab (presumably to about:preferences or about:support), we're not finding the __SSi property on the window that the tab belongs to.

That's pretty weird, since we set that property in the onLoad handler here: https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/rev/d4ef4e9747133aa2914aca2a15cf9df1e42a6aa0/browser/components/sessionstore/SessionStore.jsm#1093 and onLoad, which is called from onBeforeBrowserWindowShown on the browser-window-before-show notification.

Re-installing Firefox won't change your settings - they're stored in the profile.

You mentioned in comment 2 that it works fine in a new profile. Can you try what happens if you copy the "prefs.js" file from the existing profile to a new profile (while Firefox isn't running), and then run the new profile? Is the new profile broken then, too?

Maybe, but if it's broken because of that I'd have expected to see errors that'd explain that in the browser console. This is a pretty mysterious issue so far...

Bas, from the screenshot of the prefs section, and the hardware/about:support info in comment #12 (incl. failing graphics sanity test!) is there anything that'd explain the issues the reporter is seeing here from a graphics POV, though they work in a new profile?

Okay, so here's what's going on:

The user has a bool pref intl.locale.matchOS set to "false". This causes the user to enter this block:

However, the user _doesn't_ have general.useragent.locale set, so attempting to get it causes an exception to be thrown here.

This results in the locale not being set up correctly, which is why about:preferences (which uses Fluent, which relies on this stuff being set up presumably) doesn't display properly.

So, for the reporter zaklinica, I'm not sure how you got into this state, but here's how you get out:

1) Make sure Firefox is not running.
2) Open your prefs.js file in a text editor
3) Set intl.locale.matchOS to "true"
4) Close the file and restart Firefox

This should get you back into a working state. Does that work?

Not really. I don't know much about the old system from before I took it over last year. From what I remember `general.useragent.locale` was meant to be set always, but apparently it's not.

I believe the way to fix that is to improve the migration code, because it's only the migration code that is brittle and can error out, right?
