Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0
Build ID: 20180807170231

Steps to reproduce:

Whenever I try to join www.youtube.com, the focus which is supposed to be appearing in search bar seems to be on the side bar which allows you to move up or down the page to look more recommended videos.
I'm actually using Mozilla Firefox 61.0.2 in windows10 64 bits system and I have been noticing the same problem since 60.0.1 or something similar (didn't happen before the new Quantum firefox).
I was using other system with windows 10 32 bits before updating it to Quantum version and didn't happen this problem there too. Once updated the focus didn't work there either.

Actual results:

Just look at www.google.com. If anytime you are looking for that page the focus it shows immediatelly in the search bar, so it should be the same for www.youtube.com
Unfortunately I haven't seen any people or any topic related to this issue and would love it can be fixed up.
I actually need to do 3 tabulations in order to get the focus into the search bar each time I do open www.youtube.com

Expected results:

It should set the focus directly on search bar as soon as I or anybody join www.youtube.com

As extra information, I posted this issue at first time when I had firefox 60.0.2 with the same issue and didn't get any solution or at least getting acknowledgement of this issue.
I actually posted it again right here:

I really hope you could take a look on this small issue since youtube it's a common website to visit.
Thank you very much
Hi, I managed to reproduce this issue using the latest version of Firefox Nightly as well as release version of Firefox, please note that this issue also occurs in Google Chrome, the only browsers this issue does not occur is Edge and Internet Explorer 11.

I'm not sure but I think the Core > Selection component might be a good start for this issue, also this seems like an Enhancement to me.

Hmmm, I got the same behaviour on FF 63 as well as Chrome and Edge. I'm not sure if it's an issue or an issue on Firefox.

The bug has a release status flag that shows some version of Firefox is affected, thus it will be considered confirmed.

I just got recently an alert about this bug topic and it still haven't been addressed/fixed up. This bug fix request is 4 years old already and still keeps happening up to date. It's a thing that would be so handy to have in order to access youtube.com through Firefox. Please try to fix it up. It's annoying to click on search bar or doing multiple tabs anytime you join that website.

Severity: normal → S3
