Details

In Mozilla 2002051006 (old build, but should be confirmable on a newer one):

The sidebar does not open upon when searching Bugzilla or another search page.

To reproduce this:
1. Ensure that the "open sidebar when search results are available" preference
option is checked.
2. Open a new Mozilla window, ensuring that the sidebar is never opened for that
window.
3. Click on the URL above, or perform a search on Bugzilla or another search engine.

Expected Results: The sidebar should pop-up with the search results.
Actual Results: The sidebar does not appear.

This bug will not occurr if the sidebar has been opened at least once for that
window.

I don't ever want the sidebar to open, it takes up valuable screen real estate.
I'm going to submit a new bug because the sidebar started opening for me when I
do a search.
It never used to open.

The sidebar should open *if and only if* the Preference Internet Search: "open
sidebar when search results are available" is activated.
If you don't want the sidebar to open for search results, you should disable
this preference. (should be disabled by default, I hope)
When this preference is set however, the sidebar should open, no matter whether
it was opened before or not.
But it doesn't and that's the bug. Still there in Mozilla 1.7.3 BTW.
