User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0
Build ID: 20180712150008
Steps to reproduce:
Linux Mint 19
Firefox Quantum 61.o.1 (64-bit) / Mozilla Firefox for Linux Mint mint - 1.0
Thunderbird 52.9.1 (64-bit)
I created a launcher to launch BBC World Service website in Linux Mint 19 (firefox https://www.bbc.co.uk/podcast). It worked fine.
Weeks later I wanted to try out Brave browser, so first I installed snapd (sudo apt install snapd / https://docs.snapcraft.io/core/install-linux-mint) then I installed Brave (sudo snap install brave / https://snapcraft.io/brave).
Later I wanted to see if my launcher would launch "BBC World Service website" using the Brave browser instead of Firefox, so I edited the launcher in the menu, changing "firefox https://www.bbc.co.uk/podcast" so that it read "brave https://www.bbc.co.uk/podcast".
Actual results:
When I clicked on my menu icon for BBC World Service, the Brave Browser launched, but it didn't open up the BBC World Service webpage (https://www.bbc.co.uk/podcast).
I edited the Menu launcher back to Firefox and checked that it worked correctly (which it did).
Expected results:
Later on I tried to launch a webpage by clicking on a link on an email (http://jsw.elearninglogin.com/) but instead of opening this web page it opened the webpage from my Menu launcher (i.e. https://www.bbc.co.uk/podcast).
I tried to open other / different links from other / different emails and the same BBC website opened up.
I made Google Chrome my default browser and when I clicked on my email links, the correct website opened up (problem solved, except I like Firefox more than Chrome).
I uninstalled Brave (sudo snap remove / https://utappia.org/2016/04/22/how-to-search-install-remove-snap-packages-in-ubuntu/).
Then I logged out and logged back in. Problem persisted.
I removed the Menu Launcher for "firefox https://www.bbc.co.uk/podcast".
Then I logged out and logged back in. Problem persisted.
I uninstalled Firefox (using Linux Mint Software Manager), logged out, logged back in, reinstalled Firefox, logged out, logged back in, problem persisted.
My "firefox https://www.bbc.co.uk/podcast" launcher was stored in a an Application Menu, which I had called Streaming Video. When I clicked on a link in one of my emails, it didn't launch "firefox https://www.bbc.co.uk/podcast" which I had deleted, but instead launched the next

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:62.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/62.0 (20180830143136)
I've tested this report on Ubuntu 18.04 x64 using latest Firefox release build. However, I did not manage to reproduce the mentioned behavior. When creating a launcher following the provided steps and set Fx as my default browser, then trying to open an email link from Thunderbird is working as expected. The expected page from the email is opened for me. The BBC Podcasts are not in the opened tabs.
Can you retest using the latest Firefox release build and the latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results ? When doing this, please use a new clean Firefox profile to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause (https://goo.gl/PNe90E).

Using Software Manager in Linux Mint 19, I removed Firefox Quantum 61.o.1 (64-bit)from my computer.
I shut down my computer and then booted back up.
Using Chrome I downloaded and installed the latest Firefox Nightly build from https://nightly.mozilla.org/
After I had unpacked firefox-64.0a1.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2 I clicked on the firefox launcher icon and Firefox Nightly 64.0a1 (2018-09-16) (64-bit) opened up.
With Firefox Nightly the problem with the wrong website opening up, when I click on a link in my email seems to have been solved.
However, I am still struggling to make Firefox Nightly my default browser.
--------------
I noticed that Mozilla had released Firefox 62.0 (64-bit) for Linux Mint mint-1.0 in the last day or so, so I installed this software on my computer, alongside Firefox Nightly (using Software Manager).
A similar problem remains when I use Firefox 62.0 instead of Firefox Nightly. When I click on a link on an email (e.g. http://jsw.elearninglogin.com/) instead of opening this web page it opens up https://office.live.com/start/Word.aspx
--------------
I am going to work through the instructions in https://goo.gl/PNe90E to make sure I am cleaning up the Firefox profile correctly and eliminate any custom settings.

With Firefox Nightly the problem with the wrong website opening up, when I
click on a link in my email seems to have been solved.
Now that several new versions of Firefox have been released (including what was still Nightly when you wrote the above), can you still reproduce this problem?
