Whit the -remote command it's only possible to open a new window or talk to the
raised mozilla-window..

Netscape talks about the -id feature:

With -id it would be possible to talk to every open mozilla-window wich would
imho be very useful

(..or is there already a way to do this and i am just to dumb to find out how? :) )

reopening because this is a lot simpler than bug 128802, I have a patch and
backward compatibility (with NS4) is a good thing.

Well, might I ask the question whether it would be a great problem to produce a
somehow similar option "-tab" to access specific tabs?

the patch basically bypasses the existing code that looks for a window.

doing "-tab" would need some way to identify and direct the commands to an
individual tab, neither of which currently exists.

This patch has been around for months, and some of us would really like to see
this feature get put back in. Is someone going to commit it so it can start
getting tested and used?

and compatible with NS4.

Mass resolving a bunch of old bugs in the x-remote component in preparation for archiving it. If this bug is still valid and useful, please move it to the "Toolkit: Startup and Profile System" component and reopen it.
