when we hold down the "n" key to netboot these minis, it will fail and power off the mini. before shutting off, i see the big gray cancel icon (the O with a / through it) previously, upon netboot failure, the mini will boot back to desktop. this is throwing QTS for a loop and makes it hard to distinguish between power issues on these minis.
Looks like the machine is back and in a working state. Will close this for now. @Van, how did you fix this mini? https://tools.taskcluster.net/provisioners/releng-hardware/worker-types/gecko-t-osx-1010/workers/mdc1/t-yosemite-r7-385

If nothing was changed this isn’t fixed. This is affecting probably all the minis in mdc1. Will need to check mdc2.

i had QTS call me when they worked on MDC2 minis. deploy studio works fine in MDC2. will test MDC1 again with QTS at next opportunity. >@Van, how did you fix this mini? i had to boot into recovery mode and reimage via bless. https://mana.mozilla.org/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=34014655
@Van, now that scl3 was shut down...should we remove the scl3 lines and leave only the MDC1 and MDC2 part in the above-mentioned link?
(In reply to Zsolt Fay [:zfay] from comment #4) > @Van, now that scl3 was shut down...should we remove the scl3 lines and > leave only the MDC1 and MDC2 part in the above-mentioned link? Yes, it has been cleaned up to reflect only mdc1 and mdc2
still an issue in MDC1. alternate way is blessing the mini. QTS Operations Service Center 11:33 AM (18 minutes ago) to me, Kalu.Ekeh, Juan.Munoz, Noel.Gonzales, Jesus.Ochoa, Angel.Mendoza, Richard.kelley, Chai.Lor, Gerardo.Ramos Van, We have successfully re-imaged Mac-Mini 18493. We tried to re-image the system, 5 times using the best way and it shut down after each attempt. We had to use your alternate method to re-image. Please let us know if you need anything further. Thank you for allowing us to support your needs.
Summary: mac mini powers off when attempting to netboot → [MDC1] mac mini powers off when attempting to netboot

I'm not sure why mac minis are powering off after an attempted netboot but I have a feeling the failure to netboot is related to there being multiple netboot hosts/options in the datacenters. (eg. install.test vs bsdpy1.test). We should update our instructions for QTS to use ALT/Options key and select the appropriate netboot option instead of using the N key to netboot blindly.

This might require a trip to MDC1 to verify the problem and update the process. It still confuses me why they would power off.

The procedure for netbooting minis in the datacenter is to cmd+R into the recovery console and issue a bless command. This is the most accurate why to trigger a re-deployment. You can also use the alt/option key to select a netboot host. We will just need to explain that procedure to QTS whenever we file tickets with QTS
