I was trying to find an extension's preferences today, but it turns out that for unknown reasons we don't include addons in the main preferences search screen. So, when I search for "add-ons", I got the attached results, none of which take me to the add-ons preferences pane (which is apparently under about:addons rather than about:preferences#addons as I would have expected). We should probably ensure in the short-term that a search for "add-ons" provides the user a link to their add-ons, and in the long-term reconsider whether maintaining the separation of these two sets of preferences benefits our users.

This seems mostly like a dupe of bug 1494416. The idea of merging about:addons and about:preferences is something we've considered before as well, and I think there's an older bug filed for that. I've also noticed that you filed bug 1494487 for that. If bug 1494416 captures the idea of linking about:preferences and about:addons via search, and bug 1494487 captures the idea of merging the two interfaces completely, is this bug still needed? Or is there some subtlety here that I'm missing?
